'The Misery Index' Episode 1 review: The total entertainer leaves us laughing at other people's miseries while contestants win big or go home

From cases of a woman breastfeeding her child up to the age of nine to a person earning money by claiming to have dementia, 'The Misery Index' allows contestants to earn big by ranking other people's misery.

This show is a breath of fresh air for game shows as the cast members take the viewers on a joy ride.

Host Jameela Jamil keeps the game show going with her quirky one-liners that leave viewers in splits throughout the show.

At the same time,  the four members of The Tenderloins: Joseph "Joe" Gatto, James "Murr" Murray, Brian "Q" Quinn, and Salvatore "Sal" Vulcano do not fail to bring the spirit of the 'Impractical Jokers' to the show.

The show invites two contestants who seem to have had a taste of misery themselves to take part in the ultimate ranking contest.

In the first episode, the audience was introduced to Andrew, who lost his wedding ring on the day of his wedding and Elecktra who saw her crush hooking up with her best friend on their trip.

Throughout the show, the contestants have to go through various levels. This includes passing the misery lane, understanding what is more or less miserable and then making their way to the top of the Traumatron in order to win big.

The questions for the game are chosen on the basis of pain, trauma, and impact and each question is rated by the therapists who have been chosen for the show.

The contestant who makes a guess which is close to that of the therapists end up winning the prize.

By making money out of rating other people's misery, the contestants have a chance to take home 30,000$. However, they do not have to go through this guessing game alone as each contestant has help from two members of The Tenderloins each.

With the help of Quinn by his side, in the first episode, Elektra was able to win 28,300$ and take home a huge amount of money.

Meanwhile, the audience got their chance to enjoy at the cost of another person's misery. The show airs on Tuesdays at 10 pm on TBS.
