'The Misery Index' premiere slammed by fans as 'terrible', but it can redeem itself
'The Misery Index' brought a new perspective into the game show as the show revolved around the idea of people rating other people's misery and getting a chance to win big. The first episode saw contestants making some hard choices as the questions ranged from hearing a person fart during a meeting to a doctor making money out of patients by stating that they have dementia.
While the show allowed the viewers to have a glimpse into the misery faced by other people, it seems like not everyone was thrilled about the show's format. Many people expressed their disappointment over the show's main focus on other people's misery.
"The index is waaaaay off," wrote one user on Twitter. Others wondered how a show which spoke about misery could be allowed to air on a television platform as the comment read, "The Misery Index, a show where comedians watch videos about horrible, painful, and/or embarrassing things happening to other people and compete for jokes about which is worse, makes me want to burn down the whole world."
Another user echoed similar thoughts as the comment read, "The Misery Index is literally a comedy show that makes fun of people's pain, trauma, and psychological damage. This generation literally survives on laughing at their trauma."
Meanwhile, some even questioned the title of the show as they wrote, "What kinda name is “The misery Index” for a game show? Sounds terrible." The show collects instances that would be defined as "miserable" and then asks a panel of psychologists to rate them on the basis of pain, trauma, and impact.
The ranking is then measured alongside the rank given by the contestants and whoever is closer to the mark earns money. The contestants have an opportunity of winning up to 30,000$. However, it seems like despite having Jameela Jamil as the host and the Tenderloins, Joseph "Joe" Gatto, James "Murr" Murray, Brian "Q" Quinn, and Salvatore "Sal" Vulcano, on the show it failed to make an impact on people.
"ok so literally what the fuck is the plot of Misery Index like I literally have no idea what the show is," one user remarked while another added, "Most unfunny show I ever unfortunately watched."
However, there were others who thought that the show offered a new take on game shows and was a fun show to watch. "I like The Misery Index such a good show," one user wrote. Another added, "Awesome premiere! Loved the show." Some are even counting days until the next episode airs as the comment read, "Can’t wait until the next episode premieres."
While the audience seems to be confused about the show only the coming episodes can tell if the show will be a hit or miss.
'The Misery Index' airs on Tuesdays at 10 PM on TBS.
