'The Masked Singer' Spoilers: Octopus is Dwight Howard, here are clues you missed

Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Lakers star, he was eliminated in the very first episode of 'The Masked Singer'

'The Masked Singer' Season 6 premiere kicked off on September 22 on Fox and was one of the much-anticipated shows to drop in and got underway with a string of masked performances and one of them was the Octopus. To provide a quick idea of what it looks like, it dons a purple suit with a funky furry cape, a violet-colored hat, and tops it off with sunglasses. The octopus also sported gold necklaces and large tentacles on its head along with matching nails. Quite the sense of style!

However, it was a bit of a bummer that the Octopus, revealed to be Los Angeles Lakers star, Dwight Howard was eliminated as part of the double-elimination on the very first episode. Talking about his reason for being on the show, he said it was for his mother. "This morning we got here to the set, and my mom was like what are we doing here? You're on The Masked Singer, oh my god!!!" his mother remarked. Unfortunately, Howard was one of the contestants t be eliminated.

And getting the identity of The Masked Singer right was Ken Jeong, one of the judges. He had nailed it right at the start when he said the Octopus could be Howard, although at that point he was scoffed at. Previously, the judges guessed it would be an NBA star and the names were all there — Anthony Davis, Dennis Rodman, Chris Webber, although most of Twitter felt it could be Rodman or a rapper. "Before season 6 of the masked singer even comes out, imma guess the octopus as J.B Smoove. Probably wrong. I literally have no evidence to back this up. It’s just a hunch. #maskedsinger #octopusmask #octopus," read one of the tweets. A bunch of guesses all said former Chicago Bulls star, Rodman.

"Dennis Rodman" was the single word reply when the network's Twitter page asked fans to guess. Some felt it could be Lakers' star Dwight Howard, agreeing with Ken Former star Shaquille O'Neal was also one of the names thrown up. Like Rodman, "Shaq" was one of the tweets. But the glee was unmistakable when they found it was Howard. "Whoaaaaaaa DWIGHT HOWARD?!? WOOOOOWWW #OctopusMask #MaskedSinger," a tweet read.

The Octopus had quite the moves and that would mean the singer is one who could groove to the rhythm. There were quite a few whispers that it could be a rapper. According to Distractify, the three guesses by fans were: ickey Smiley, Snoop Dogg, and Chris Tucker. However, the site also took a few potshots — Lou Bega, Brad Pitt, Randy Jackson, and JB Smoove.

Octopus Clues that point to Dwight Howard

The Gold phone ringing in the Octopus package was a tribute to the ring he won with the Los Angeles Lakers when they won the 2019-20 Championship. He was part of the Philadelphia 76ers before being signed back by the Lakers. The other clue was the magic playing card which was a nod to the eight seasons he played for the Orlando Magic.

The star will now be seen playing alongside former teammates, LeBron James and Anthony Davis again when the NBA season starts off in October.

'The Masked Singer' airs Wednesday nights at 8 pm ET on Fox.
