'The Manny' Ending Explained: Morgan's criminal motive is stunning

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Manny' is streaming on Lifetime from May 9, 2024, and the movie follows the life of Lani (Joanne Jansen), a single mother who hires a male nanny Morgan (Michael Evans Behling) for her son Jaylen ( Ashton Ayres).
Directed by Doug Campbell, 'The Manny' is a thriller drama where the motives of Morgan are unclear throughout the story as he kills Lani's friend Mercedes (Hailey Summer) and boyfriend Zack (Brendan Morgan).
Throughout the film, Lani and Morgan share chemistry with Lani getting attracted towards Morgan. However, the strange sequence of events and the death of Mercedes disturbs her. So how does the film end? Why is Morgan attacking people around Lani? Find out.
Lani finds out about Morgan's identity
A woman named Rebbeca (LA Sweeney) reaches out to Lani and asks her to be careful of Morgan who murdered someone close to her too. Lani meets her and calls Darren (Jamaal Grant) to be with Jaylen.
Lani also gets access to Zack's research which had information about Morgan and his late mother. She immediately reaches her home to be with her son.
Morgan however reaches there first and attacks Darren making him unconscious.
Lani kills Morgan while trying to defend Jaylen
Morgan threatens to harm Jaylen when Lani acts on her motherly instincts and attacks Morgan helping Jaylen escape. Morgan goes after Jaylen into the woods and Lani goes after him.
Morgan attacks Lani after trapping her by cutting his hand and leaving behind a trail of blood. Jaylen, however, reverses the attack and kills Morgan with a weapon.
Morgan is about to die when he starts to talk to Lani in his final words.
Morgan reveals the motive for his crime
Earlier in the film, Morgan reveals his backstory and the story of his mother's death. His mother was also a single mother like Lani and Rebecca who died after her boyfriend killed her for putting Morgan ahead of him.
He carries the wound deep with him and wants to protect children like Jaylen from people like Zack. He confesses to Lani about wanting to have a family with her and putting Jaylen first. It is evident throughout the film that he wants to keep Lani away from Zack. He kills Mercedes as she discovers the details about Morgan's background. While killing her, Morgan tells her that he has been through a lot. We fully understand the gravity of the statement at the end of the film.
The film ends with Lani looking for a nanny but being apprehensive after the experience she has had with Morgan.
