'The Mandalorian': Internet swoons over ‘Baby Yoda’ as Star Wars purists lap up the new Disney+ show

Fan reactions to the show are largely positive, with some even claiming this to be the best 'Star Wars' since the original trilogy

Spoilers ahead for Season 1, Episode 1 of ‘The Mandalorian’

The long wait is finally over! The first episode of ‘The Mandalorian’ is out and the fans are loving it. Many are of the opinion that it’s the best of ‘Star Wars’ that we've seen since the release of the original trilogy.

There is also a lot of excitement about the galaxy’s most adorable reveal—the little green child the internet is calling ‘Baby Yoda’. “OMG, can we talk about how cute is baby Yoda tho?!! OK, maybe not Yoda, but one of his species,” wrote one Twitter user. The baby wasn't named in this episode, and the species it belongs to has never been mentioned in any ‘Star Wars’ media thus far. “I have feeling we're going to see a lot of baby yodas this Christmas,” says another user—an astute observation as the ‘Star Wars’ franchise is heavily dedicated to its toy line.

Many fans, who have gotten used to binging new shows, are already impatient for the next episode to air.

“Mandalorian Episode 1 was an excellent start. I AM INTRIGUED! GIVE ME MORE!” demands a user, who fortunately doesn’t have long to wait, unlike some other fans around the world.

Fans in the UK, for example, are especially disappointed as they have to wait until March before being able to watch the series. “Dear America. I'm definitely suffering from sever PMJD today... Post Mandalorian Jealousy Disorder” is one of many glum complaints on Twitter as fans try to avoid spoilers for months before they can watch the show.

Many ‘Star Wars’ purists are also being brought back into the fold, celebrating what they believe to be a return to ‘Star Wars’ storytelling at its best. “Thank you Disney for a real Star Wars!!!! For the younger generation that doesn’t get the original generations frustration with anything made after the original 3,” notes a fan on Twitter.
