'The Magicians' Season 5 Episode 8 Promo: Margo rallies troops to kill the Dark King even as Eliot hesitates

Back in episode 3 this season, we heard Sebastian aka "Seb" (Sean Maguire) tell Eliot (Hale Appleman) the long winding story about himself. Born to a family of Magicians from Earth, he traveled to Loria to work as a merchant. When he traveled to the border area of Fillory's Northern Barrier, he was attacked by a Taker.

This is when he had "instinctively" shot off an anti-viral spell that killed the creature when it touched him. He also told Eliot that he does a pilgrimage to the 'Mountain of Ghosts' every year to honor a man he loved, who had died.

Plenty of layers to unravel there and the writers have made Seb, the Dark King, a little more complex than a simple, mustache-twirling villain. After Alice (Olivia Dudley) and Eliot discover he is none other than the Dark King himself, the gang starts investigating him.

But Eliot is massively conflicted because of his crush on the Dark King. He keeps wondering about whether Seb is a good guy posing as the bad guy, or a really bad guy who knows exactly how to manipulate people.

After last week's episode, we would say that it is the latter since he is the one summoning Takers into existence using gold in the Fillorian woods. After being shown this sight by the fairies, Miss 'Take-no-prisoners' Margo is already on the warpath, as the promo for the next episode, titled, 'Garden Variety Homicide', shows.

We see her in a secret meeting at the palace with Josh (back from his nephew's bar mitzvah), Fen and Eliot, telling them, "We got to kill the Dark King. Who's in?" Fen, however, has some doubts about this plan of action.

"We're talking of a powerful, immortal magician. Don't think you can just walk up and stab the guy," says Fen as we catch a glimpse of Eliot in the background looking pensive and sad about scheming against Seb.

We see him approach Seb alone and ask him, "You think you could ever step down?". We see a tortured looking Seb stare up at Eliot and say, "I have to be King", before lunging at Eliot with a knife.

Could it all have something to do with the little ditty Todd was singing at the end of last week's episode? To quote, he chanted this little ditty: "The evil forces enter a forest glade/ Coming from distant realm to invade!/ We have to seal the Door or Death will come for everyone/ Destroying all of nature..blah, blah 'smeveryone'."

The "Door" might be the portal through which Seb is summoning the Takers from "another realm" and Death, as per usual, is what the gang is trying to protect Fillory from. Seems like there are some bad times ahead.

The next episode of 'The Magicians' airs on February 26 on Syfy at 10/9c.
