This review contains spoilers for 'The Lost Symbol' Episode 3 'Murmuration'

Much of the focus in 'The Lost Symbol's latest episode is about the Leviathan, the mysterious group that is responsible for the protection of the ancient wisdom that humanity cannot fathom. If the second episode 'The Araf' was all about Peter Langdon's (Eddie Izzard) hallucinations, this chapter deals with progress as one of the themes. 'Murmuration' sheds light on the Leviathan and gives a look at the meticulous efforts they put in order to protect the secrets they are in possession of.

There's also some storylines that see Inoue Sato's (Sumalee Montano) relationship with Zachary Solomon (Beau Knapp) and his botched career with the CIA. The series so far has stuck to the source material and made an honest attempt to bring Dan Brown's novel to life. As far as the mystery is concerned, Robert Langdon (Ashley Zukerman) and Katherine (Valorie Curry) see them head to a cemetery to search for the remains of an Ezra Dove, a Freemason whose name pops up as they scramble in their search for Peter and the Capstone. The Leviathan symbol repeatedly pops up inside Dove's burial chamber.

'The Lost Symbol' Episode 2: Langdon, Katherine race against time in thriller chapter

Rick Gonzales as Nunez (Peacock)

The duo finds a film reel found under a Leviathan symbol. When played, it shows a man with the ability to control bird murmuration — a stunning and disbelieving display of divine power and wisdom. Once the reel ends, the film self-destructs and Langdon seemingly understands why Mal'akh is behind the portal and why the Leviathans are bent on keeping their secret.

The episode though ends with the death of a character, Trish (Emily Piggford) is one of the victims in the rescue mission who pays the price as she runs into Mal'akh who drugs her and kills her after finding Langdon and Kathy's whereabouts. He kills Trish for the sole reason that Langdon disobeys his instruction of not working alone to help Zachary find the portal. 'Murmuration' does enough to keep the intrigue factor going, however, what the episodes could use is a little pace.

Zukerman, despite looking clunky as Langdon seems to have eased into his role better. He's still the claustrophobic geek with an air of arrogance around him, but he's more in control of the character and in tune with Langdon's personality from the books. The supporting cast manages to hold their own. The biggest plus is Nunez (Rick Gonzalez) as he plays the role of smart-yet-comedic Capitol cop with utmost ease. If the pilot was all about the details, the second and third episodes delve deeper into the story and are worth tuning in.

'The Lost Symbol' airs Thursdays on Peacock.
