LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Fans who have grown up watching the iconic ‘Lord of the Rings’ films can’t keep their calm. It's indeed an exciting time since only a few more days are left for the highly awaited premiere of the multi-starrer historical war fable ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’. The makers plan to unveil the series globally in next month on September 2, 2022 on Amazon Prime Video. The prequel saga is also set in Middle-Earth but in the Second Age. When we talk about the characters, there are supreme dwarves, then the elves and finally the Harfoots, a race of hobbits, who will be seen in the series.

When we talk about the characters in the prequel series, one of the most intriguing ones is that of Elanor Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh). In the series, Elanor, also known as 'Nori,' is a hobbit who belongs to the Harfoots race. Born in the Second Age, she discovers a mysterious person lurking near where a meteorite crashed into the land. This non-canonical character was created for the series. According to LOTR Fandom.com, Harfoots were one of the three races of hobbits, alongside Stoors and Fallohides.

'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power': How Sundering Seas came to life in prequel saga

Historically, Harfoots were the most common type of hobbit. Within their earliest known history, they lived in the lower foothills of the Misty Mountains, followed by Vales of Anduin also including an area roughly bounded by the Gladden River in the south and a small forested region near the High Pass to the north. But contrary to this, in the series we’d be seeing how Harfoots are a nomadic community who are always on the move and keep on travelling through the seasons. These mythical creatures have carts that serve as mobile homes of the Harfoots in the series. Whenever they traveled, they would move their carts with them so they literally carried their homes with them. 'Home' for Harfoots in the prequel saga consist of their people and the nomadic community they have built together.

Harfoots are also decribed as more tan when it came to skin color  when compared to the other hobbits. They had no beards and didn’t wear any footwear. They also lived in holes they called smials, as they passed through the land — a habit which they long preserved. They are seen to be on friendly terms with the Dwarves in series who traveled through the High Pass.

The Harfoots were the first to migrate westward into Arnor. There Dunedain named them ‘Periannath’ or ‘Halflings,’ recorded in Arnorian records around TA 1050. They tended to settle down for long times and founded numerous villages as far as Weathertop. By 1300s of the Third Age (TA), Harfoots also ended up reaching Bree, which was the westernmost home of any hobbits for a long while. They had been joined between TA 1150 and TA 1300 by the Fallohides and some Stoors. The Harfoots took Fallohides which is a bolder breed, as their leaders. The Shire was colonized long after this, in TA 1601, mostly by Harfoots.

The series has been re-created catering to viewers and global audiences by showrunners JD Payne and Patrick Mckay for Prime Video. Since it is based on late novelist JRR Tolkien’s book ‘The Lord of the Rings and its appendices,’ the series has been conceptualized and re-imagined almost thousands of years before Tolkien’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Hobbit’ films.‘Apart from Markella Kavenagh (Elanor 'Nori' Brandyfoot), The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ also boasts of an ensemble cast stacked with several noted actors like Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Robert Aramayo (Elrond), Charlie Vickers (Halbrand), Trystan Gravelle (Pharazon), Megan Richards (Poppy Proudfellow), Sara Zwangobani (Marigold Brandyfoot), Owain Arthur (Prince Durin IV), Charles Edwards (Celebrimbor), Daniel Weyman (The Stranger), Maxim Baldry (Isildur), Ismael Cruz Cordova (Arondir), Ema Horvath (Eärien), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Queen Regent Míriel), Nazanin Boniadi (Bronwyn), Lenny Henry (Sadoc Burrows), Tyroe Muhafidin (Theo), Sophia Nomvete (Princess Disa), Lloyd Owen (Elendil), Dylan Smith (Largo Brandyfoot), and Leon Wadham (Kemen).
