‘The Little Mermaid’ star Halle Bailey calls romance with Rapper DDG a 'transformative experience'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Halle Bailey, who is at the peak of her game and gearing up for the release of ‘The Little Mermaid’ on May 26, has spoken about her love life with rapper DDG. She said that the relationship helped her discover more within herself “as a woman.”
Bailey told People, “I think the best thing about young love is that you're able to continue to find yourself through this journey of loving somebody else. And you're discovering new parts of yourself and maybe things that you didn't notice before about your heart,” adding, “I feel like things change when love gets more involved in your life. I have definitely discovered more within myself as a woman. …It's a really cool thing to go through, but a transformative experience.”

'I was my own person before her'
On the other hand, DDG said on ‘The Breakfast Club’ in November 2022, as per Parade, “I’ve never been with nobody that’s like really motivated me like [Halle] do. I’m seeing different s**t. I ain’t really been around this type of s**t before, so it’s like, she’s bringing me around s**t that I ain’t really—you know what I’m saying? ‘Oh, this is crazy. This is dope.’ You know what I mean? I was my own person before her, but in a way, put me on to different s**t. That’s dope because I’m usually the one putting motherf****s on.”
The statements come amid rumors that the two had broken up as DDG was allegedly cheating on Bailey. It began after his ex-girlfriend, Rubi Rose, shared screenshots of her messages with the rapper, per HotNewHipHop.
Denying the allegations, Bailey tweeted, “The devil is working lol. Please don’t feel into the lies, especially from a third party. Stay blessed everyone.” When asked if she thought DDG was her “real Prince Charming,” she said, “Yeah. I would say that.”

Bailey and DDG, a rapper and YouTube star based in Los Angeles whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr, first got linked in January 2022 when they were spotted together at Usher's Las Vegas residency, reported People. DDG revealed during the interview on ‘The Breakfast Club’ that the romance started after he slid into her DMs. The couple made their relationship public in March 2022 and Bailey appeared in his music video for ‘If I Want You’ in August 2022.
Speaking about having children, Bailey told Essence in August 2022, “I want to have like 10 babies and go live on a farm and have a great house. I wanna grow my own food and have an oasis away from the world, where my family and I go and have a great time.”
Prior to DDG, Bailey did not date anyone publicly in the past. However, in an Instagram live video with her sister Chloe, she said, “Me and Chloe don’t like the same kind of guys. She likes pretty boys.” Chloe said that Bailey likes “a guy with some sort of confidence and swag,” stated J-14 Magazine.
