LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The first season of Netflix's legal drama, 'The Lincoln Lawyer', was centered around the murder trial of Lara Elliott, a software and game designer who created the game 'Nocturna'. The accused in the case was her business partner and husband, Trevor Elliott, who earned millions of dollars after the release of the game that his wife helped create. Trevor was accused on the charges of shooting his wife and her lover, Jan Rilz, in their house and later disposing of the evidence to safeguard himself. Moreover, Jerry Vincent, Trevor's lawyer, is murdered, leading to the case falling into the lap of a brilliant criminal defense attorney named Mickey Haller, who works out of a Lincoln car.

Even though all of Jerry's cases go to Mickey, the high-profile case of the tech mogul killing his wife is at the core of Season 1. When it comes to Mickey's backstory, the attorney has a tumultuous relationship with his ex-wife, Maggie McPherson (Neve Campbell), and employs two close friends, Lorna Crane (Becki Newton) and Cisco (Angus Sampson), as well as his driver Izzy Letts (Jazz Raycole) to make his life easier. But Trevor's case is a labyrinth of chaos for even someone like Mickey. The tech millionaire continues to maintain his innocence throughout the show, eventually convincing his attorney and even the jury that he didn't commit the murder. Later, Mickey learns that it was indeed Trevor who killed his wife and her lover. Since then, Trevor's ability to fool everyone, including Mickey, has been a surprise to the viewers.

Did Trevor really kill his wife?

Trevor (Christopher Gorham) told Mickey (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) that he found Lara (Katy Erin) and Jan (Johann Urb) shot dead at point-blank range in their bedroom. He immediately called the police, who later falsely arrested him on the charges of murdering his wife. Trevor even fabricated a backstory about a Russian mobster who was out there to get him if he wasn't proven innocent. Mickey fell for Trevor's lies and convinced the jury that his client couldn't have been the killer who supposedly got rid of his bloodied clothes and gun in the seven-minute window. He even went as far as to state that the gun residue found on Trevor was because he was in the same car as Eli Whyms (Mikal Vega), who was arrested for firing 90 rounds of ammunition on the cops earlier.

The jury found Trevor not guilty, but Mickey, through the testimony of Sonia Patel (Puja Mohindra), a friend of Lara's, and his research, realized that Trevor's wife was the true creator of the game that made him a lot of money. She was a 50-50 partner who found out about Trevor's affair and wanted a divorce. It would mean that he would lose half of his company, revealing to everyone that he wasn't behind 'Nocturna's creation. This was Trevor's motive behind shooting his wife and her lover, and then he later used a drone to dispose of his clothes into the nearby sea. Unfortunately for Trevor, the end is harsh as he is eventually shot by Carol Dubois (Heather Mazur), one of Jan's lovers.

What to expect from Mickey Haller in Season 2?

Mickey not only learns about Trevor's truth but also nails down Judge Mary Holder (LisaGay Hamilton), who hired a man named Sweeney to kill Jerry (LisaGay Hamilton). He confronts her, and she admits to it on a wire and is arrested by Detective Raymond Griggs (Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine). The second season of 'The Lincoln Lawyer' is based on Michael Connelly's novel 'The Fifth Witness' which features the trial of Mickey's long-standing client, Lisa Trammel (Lana Parrilla), when she is suspected of murdering a wealthy real estate developer Mitchell Bondurant.

Moreover, one of Mickey's earlier cases saw a material witness hold herself back from testifying. But her eventual testimony years later proved that the police falsely imprisoned Jesus (Saul Huezo), Mickey's client, and the real killer, a man who has a tattoo on his arm, is still out there. The first season ends on a cliffhanger with the scene of the attorney going back to surfing as a man with a tattoo on his arm watches him from a distance. The past is not yet done with Mickey, even though he's prepared to leave it behind, as he has to take on another high-profile case in Los Angeles.
