Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser made news last week after she had a section of 16th Street near the White House painted with the words 'Black Lives Matter' in bright yellow and renamed a section of the street Black Lives Matter Plaza on June 5. The decision was a show of solidarity with demonstrators who had been protesting against police violence and systemic racism. This move came days after US Park Police and National Guard troops fired tear gas at peaceful protesters to make way for President Donald Trump so that he could pose for a photo in front of St John's Church.

Bowser appeared on 'The Late Late Show With James Corden' and opened up about the protests, the coronavirus pandemic that had claimed more than a million lives around the globe and added that there was no vaccine at the moment. She also said that the decision to reopen was a bad one as there would surely be a spike in cases. Corden asked if Trump would link the spike to the protests, to which Bowser answered that the spike should be attributed to the hasty decision of doing away with the lockdown. She did not mince any words and discussed her future plans for DC and her hopes for humanity.

Fans were full of awe for Bowser and couldn't stop praising her on social media. "Watching @MurielBowser on @latelateshow. She’s amazing!! Oh shoot... another VP pic. However, she’s amazing for DC — our shining jewel (We just have to get stench of trump family out.) Long live DC!!!" a fan wrote. "I’m never up this late, but when I am it's to watch my boss @MayorBowseron @latelateshow representing DC," another wrote. "@MurielBowserwe see you. Stay strong! You are amazing," a fan wrote. One more tweeted, "Watching @MurielBowser on @latelateshow I'm so pumped, not sure I can sleep! #DCStatehoodNow."

"How terrific is Mayor Muriel Bowser? I live just outside DC, and I’m a staunch supporter of this strong, fearless, intelligent woman. Washington's incredibly lucky to have her," a fan wrote. "Say man James Corden is conducting a fantastic interview with her honor Muriel Bowser," another tweeted. However, there were others who were critical and cynical about her methods. "Amazing how painting letters in large yellow paint to taunt President Trump can make up for the mayor letting rioters loot and torch her city for several days. Meanwhile DC's 911 incompetent system is still getting residents killed," a fan wrote.

'The Late Late Show With James Corden' airs on CBS.
