Jodie Whittaker and David Tennant discuss 'Doctor Who' with James Corden, fans call them 'cutest people alive'
Tonight's (June 18) episode of 'The Late Late Show with James Corden' was pretty much a 'Doctor Who' get together. David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker made an appearance in time for the popular British show coming to HBO Max. The two spoke about the condition during the lockdown in the UK with a jab at Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Corden chimed in with a swipe at President Trump. They also discussed their experiences of playing the role of the iconic Doctor, a significant character in British television history. "The Doctor was someone I could aspire to be," Tennant said when talking about how the Doctor shaped his early childhood. "The Doctor is celebrated for being clever and kind."
And more so for Whittaker, who became the first woman to play the role as the Thirteenth Doctor since 2018 -- an announcement that created waves back in 2017. The actress spoke at length about being an inspiration to millions of young girls today. To say that the massive fan base of the show was pleased is not cutting it. "It's so nice to have David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker on my TV together and it *not* be tragically dark. Such charming humans. #LateLateShow," tweeted a fan.
"Jodie Whittaker, David Tennant and James Corden together is literally an episode of doctor who," said another. "David Tennant and Jodie Whitaker on the James Corden show. That’s the content I’ve been waiting for. @latelateshow #TwoDoctorsAndACompanion," added another. Later in the episode, Tennant and Whittaker then also judged a small competition put together by the show. Six fans were asked to recreate costumes from 'Doctor Who' with items around their house. This segment was appreciated among cosplay fans. "I have definitely come to the conclusion tonight that Jodie Whittaker and David Tennant are two of the cutest people alive. Thank you for coming to my ted talk," tweeted a fan.
And some from the fan base even disagreed wanting to play fair. "Just watched @JKCorden’s who the who are you w David Tennant & Jodi Whittaker and tbh I disagree I with their verdict." Actors Tennant and Whittaker have also worked together in 'Broadchurch', whose fan base also chimed in. "Broadchurch was wonderful, but seeing David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker on the @latelateshow together has made me want them in a comedy together SO MUCH."
'The Late Late Show with James Corden' airs weekdays at 12.35 am ET.
