'The King: Eternal Monarch' Episode 5: Lee Gon kisses Tae-eul, but will Seo-Ryeong leave her alone?
Spoilers for 'The King: Eternal Monarch' Episode 5
'The King: Eternal Monarch' Episode 5 sees Jo Yeong (Woo Do-hwan) shocked at his king Lee Gon's (Lee Min Ho) changed behavior since he saw the strange burning scar on his right shoulder blade. He is suspicious of Jang Tae-eul (Kim Go-eun) and wonders if she is the reason why the king has a scar in the first place. However, he is unable to question the king about Tae-eul any further and all he is able to do is sport a look of shock every time Tae-eul addresses Lee Gon.
He is especially scandalized when she points P30 at Lee Gon and is one step away from shooting her himself. However, Lee Gon, who is at this point smitten with this woman stops the Chief Court Lady and Jo Yeong from taking any drastic steps against Tae-eul. First, he wants Tae-eul to be acclimatized to the new world so he does hand over his phone for her to use and search for everything that she wants to learn about the Kingdom of Corea. Just minutes after arriving at his study, the Court Lady separates Tae-eul and the king hoping that their fates are not intertwined already.
However, she is unable to stop Lee Gon from sneaking around and meeting Tae-eul when she is not around. It is while sneaking around in the palace that Lee Gon plants a kiss on Tae-eul. It is a result of Tae-eul goading Lee Gon about not having dated anyone in the past. He tells her that he has dated and to prove a point, he even kisses her. This shocks Tae-eul but that is as far as their romantic overture goes.
The next morning, after learning that he has a full schedule, he ends up dressing Tae-eul as a security personnel to get her out of the palace and as she watches Lee Gon live his life as a king, Tae-eul cannot help but be impressed by how he is influencing young people. In the middle of his busy day though, Lee Gon frees her from the security detail and tells her to go around and take a look at the all-new world. However, the palace is in Busan and what Tae-eul really wants to do is go to Seoul in this world and see if her mother has fared better here.
She wanted to try and see if there was a chance to get a look at her mother after all these years. However, she fails because she has no real way of finding her mother without knowing her name in this world. The name that she knows is something that only exists within her world. In this confusion, she forgets that she doesn't have enough money to return to Busan and when she does realize that, she doesn't have a way to reach Lee Gon. She tries to call the palace and asks to speak to him, but even after 17 times, she is unable to talk to him.
However, one of Lee Gon's security detail tells him that a woman called Princess Diana has been trying to reach him and that's when he realizes that Tae-eul could be in trouble. He then arrives at Seoul to accompany her back to palace but unexpectedly Prime Minister Seo-ryeong (Jung Eun-Chae) also arrives to welcome the king to the city and ends up meeting Tae-eul as well. She even tries to introduce herself to Tae-eul but Tae-eul, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be very interested. Could it because she doesn't like rumors linking Lee Gon and Seo-ryeong? This we will see in the next episode.
