Spoilers ahead for 'The Hollow' Season 2

Netflix's 'The Hollow' is back with a brand-new adventure starring Adam (Adrian Petriw), Kai (Connor Parnall), Mira (Ashleigh Ball) and last season's antagonists Reeve (Alex Barima), Vanessa (Diana Kaarina) and Skeet (Jesse Moss).

Season 1 of 'The Hollow' had a pretty gripping mystery behind it but Season 2's twist knocks it out of the park in terms of sheer sci-fi horror.

Season 2 begins with Adam waking up in the animated world of The Hollow once again where he, Kai, and Mira quickly discover that things are far more dangerous than they appear.

They come up with a number of theories for what's going on including the possibility that they're either in a dream world or in some new level of the game but the truth is something far scarier.

After hunting for the Weird Guy (Mark Hildreth) through multiple weird and dangerous locales and losing Skeet along the way, Adam, Kai, Mira, Vanessa, and Reeve finally catch up to Weirdy and get him to spill the beans on what's really going on.

And what he reveals elevates the show from standard children's animation to 'Devs'-level sci-fi horror.

As it turns out, the company behind the Hollow game has been secretly scraping the memories and personalities of its players, using them to create perfect virtual simulations (digital clones, if you will).

These clones are being used to populate a 'Sims'-style virtual world game called Hollow Life where they will be the playthings of real-life players. So while their real selves are still alive and well in the real world, the characters we know are the virtual selves who are still stuck inside the Hollow game's servers.

This leads them to their new mission to stop the people who are actually playing the game from completing it because if the game ends before Weirdy can get Hollow Life offline, then our heroes end too.

By the end of the season, Adam, Kai, Mira, Reeve and Vanessa do manage to successfully escape the game and get Hollow Life taken offline so they can happily live out their lives in a virtual recreation of the real world.

But the last shot of the season shows Louie the giant snail out in the (virtual) real world so maybe there are some glitches left that can provide us with stories for further seasons.

'The Hollow' Season 2 is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
