'The Great British Baking Show': Dave Friday was 'robbed of title' but his baby is his true prize, say fans
'The Great British Baking Show' has reached its final leg and the winner has been announced. Twenty-year-old Peter Sawkins walked away with the prestigious trophy, while Dave Friday and Laura Adlington were appreciated for the effort they put in in the last few weeks. The bakers were more friends than competitors. What kept them going despite the several bake fails was their willingness to reach the finishing line.
Dave, a home-baker and a Hampshire-based security guard, was put on leave back in April, Radio Times reported. And this free time allowed him to start baking from scratch. Even though he is new to the field, Dave has easily been one of the technically-sound contestants who performed up to the mark in the finale but unfortunately lost to Peter whose consistency brought him where he is today.
"There were so many different baking styles, techniques and jargon I hadn’t heard of, so I felt I needed to start from scratch," Dave told the publication, and added: "It was such a learning curve, but I really enjoyed that part of the journey — little did I know how long the journey would last!" He won star baker once in the series and will be remembered for his showstopper piece that featured the bust of his favorite Blink 182 singer Tom DeLonge.
"Dave was robbed, so it's all about the showstopper not how you bake in the challenges, Paul and pru have had a soft spot from day one. Well done peter but Dave was still robbed. #GBBOFinal #gbbodave," a fan commented, while another shared: "Dave should have won! Better in both previous rounds."
