'The Golden Bachelor': Tyler Cameron accuses Gerry and Theresa of putting 'stain on love and Bachelor Nation'
HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA: Tyler Cameron attacked Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, the stars of 'The Golden Bachelor', saying their shocking divorce left a "stain" on the franchise. "They have put a true stain on love in the 'Bachelor' world," 'The Bachelorette' alumna said on April 17 on SiriusXM's TODAY Show Radio's "The Happy Hour" program.
"Three months?! They make all my relationships seem very long. You know what I mean?" Tyler remarked, "Like golly, I’m a dating expert compared to them." He said that viewers enjoyed seeing Gerry's quest for true love during his season of 'The Golden Bachelor', which revived the program.
"They put a stain on love and Bachelor Nation because it was the most wholesome [experience]," he stated. "Then they just pulled the rug right out from under us."
Tyler Cameron calls Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist 'two stubborn old people'
Tyler explained that his father is "old," "single," and set in his ways, drawing comparisons between the relationship of the ex-couple and his father. "[My dad] can’t find anyone that wants to deal with the stuff he does... he doesn’t want to change much either, and I imagine Jerry and Theresa don’t want to change their ways," Tyler added.
"Jerry and Theresa don’t want to change their ways. He doesn’t want to leave Indiana, where his family is, and she doesn’t want to leave — New Jersey."
He continued, "Like it’s just two stubborn old people, you know? And when you get older, you get more stubborn."
Nick Viall believes 'there’s more to the story' behind Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist's split
This week, Nick Viall, the lead of 'The Bachelor' season 21, told PEOPLE he "was caught off guard, and surprised by the abruptness." He said, "I think what shocked me the most is this wasn’t just a normal breakup or an end of an engagement, this was a divorce announcement."
"It doesn’t require lawyers to get out of an engagement. It does require lawyers to get out of a marriage, and I’m really curious what changed with Gerry and Theresa that made them so sure to sign up for a marriage license, but now only to get a divorce."
Nick expressed his belief that "maybe Gerry’s not as golden as we hoped he would be" and that "there’s more to the story that we’re not hearing."
Why did 'The Golden Bachelor' couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist split?
Following their televised wedding on January 4, 2024, Gerry and Theresa announced their divorce on April 12.
"Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage," Gerry said during an interview with 'Good Morning America'.
"We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched ‘The Golden Bachelor,’ and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope," Theresa said, defending her estranged husband. "We want none of that to change for anybody."
The couple wanted to remain near their children's homes in Indiana and New Jersey, respectively; therefore, during their brief marriage, they had a long-distance relationship. "We looked at homes in South Carolina; we considered New Jersey; and we just looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” Theresa added.
