'The Flash' season 6: Barry Allen gets a new crimson suit inspired from DC's The New 52 comics

The Scarlet Speedster's suit in season 5 didn't really receive a great response from fans, but this version may most definitely make up for it

'The Flash' season 6 is less than a month away from its premiere and The CW has dished out new images from the season's first episode, 'Into The Void'. The most noteworthy is the new crimson suit the speedster is set to don in the upcoming season.  Barry Allen's (Grant Gustin) suit in season 5 didn't really receive a great response from fans, however, the new suit ahead of season  6 looks fantastically cool. Over the years, Barry’s suit has gradually evolved, getting brighter.  The lightning motif has become more prominent.  And the fabric's more flexible.

Gustin himself also added that his new suit is as close as it can get to the comic book version. "I loved my first suit too that Colleen Atwood designed. I thought it was cool and urban and vintage looking. It was a cool suit to start with, but what we have now is really close to what’s on the comic book page. I love it," he said during this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Barry's suit is inspired from the New 52 company-wide comic book relaunch in 2011.

To start with, the bright red color and the emblem is retained from season 5. The chinstrap from the previous outfits is back as well. The new suit sees yellow seams that start from the belt and goes all the way up to the chest and shoulders. The different set of earpieces are another addition. We still await the golden yellow boots, as the new outfit still sees him don the reds. The yellow seams are thinner and look less "busy" than the New 52 version Flash.

While we're talking about The New 52, here's some interesting trivia: The New 52 Barry Allen is a younger, reimagined version of the Scarlet Speedster and a member of the Justice League, one that never married Iris West. That Barry gets a new suit in each season is almost a given. Season 5 saw Barry's suit come from the future and not by S.T.A.R. Labs' resident tech expert, Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes). Each of the Flash's costumes has links to the stories in some ways and probably, a bit of the storyline from the season opener will explain how the new look came about.

On the storyline front, things look pretty bleak for Barry and Co. Not only did he lose his daughter Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy) at the end of season 5, his own disappearance and possible death are looming on the horizon as ‘The Flash’ races into its sixth season. In season 5, it was revealed that Barry disappears from the timeline at some point in 2049. However, Nora’s actions in the fifth season moved up that date to 2019, suggesting the Flash may die during the upcoming ‘Crisis’.
