It’s time for fans of The Flaming Lips to rejoice as the rock band is all set to release their 16th album titled 'American Head'. The highly-anticipated LP is a follow-up of their last year’s album called 'King’s Mouth'.

The experimental rock band currently hosts seven members. Steven Drozd, who serves as a guitarist and songwriter in the band, had announced about the album on March 23.

Speaking about the new album, the frontman Wayne Coyne said in a statement, according to a report by the Rolling Stone, "So, for most of our musical life, we’ve kind of thought of ourselves as coming from 'Earth', not really caring where we were actually from. So, for the first time in our musical life, we began to think of ourselves as 'an American band' telling ourselves that it would be our identity for our next creative adventure. We started to think of classic American bands like the Grateful Dead and Parliament-Funkadelic and how maybe we could embrace this new vibe."

Release date

The brand new album will see the light of day on September 11. A double colored vinyl will also be available on October 2, along with limited edition art prints. The album is produced by long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann.

Concept

According to the band’s official press release, the frontman spoke about the album and stated, "The music and songs that make up the 'American Head' album are based on a feeling. A feeling that, I think, can only be expressed through music and songs. We were, while creating it, trying to not hear it as sounds but to feel it. Mother's sacrifice, Father's intensity, Brother's insanity, Sister's rebellion, I can't quite put it into words."

The new album represents a shift in identity as the band decided to shed light on their American roots this time.

Tracklist

'American Head’ will come with 13 tracks. Here’s how the tracklist looks like:

'Will You Return / When You Come Down’
'Watching the Lightbugs Glow'
'Flowers of Neptune 6'
'Dinosaurs on the Mountain'
'At the Movies on Quaaludes'
'Mother, I've Taken LSD'
‘Brother Eye'
'You n Me Sellin' Weed'
'Mother, Please Don't Be Sad'
'When We Die When We're High'
'Assassins of Youth'
'God and the Policeman' (featuring Kacey Musgraves)
'My Religion Is You'

Fans can tune into 'American Head' on Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, YouTube and other major digital platforms. The album will be released through Warner Records in the US and Bella Union in the UK.
