‘The Five’ host Jessica Tarlov shreds Will Cain as he calls Donald Trump’s mugshot ‘image of defiance,’ compares it to MLK
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The Five' host Jessica Tarlov was not happy with Will Cain's comparison of Donald Trump's recently released mugshot to that of iconic figures like Martin Luther King Jr.
The mugshot has been making rounds on the internet for different reasons. While many found it funny and have transformed it into memes, supporters of the former President thought of it as a powerful image.
Cain's comparison aligned with those sentiments but Tarlov was quick to address how her fellow co-host's comment did not sit well with her in one of the segments of the news show.
Trump's Mugshot releases after his surrender
The Former President, after his indictment in Georgia for interference in the 2020 presidential elections, recently surrendered.
Following his bail payment of $200,000 for release from the Atlanta jail until trial, in a historic moment, his mugshot was released.
Along with him, 18 others who were allegedly involved in the interference have also surrendered and their mugshots were simultaneously released as well.
Will Cain calls Donald Trump's mugshot image of 'defiance'
Cain, as a loyal supporter of the former president, addressed the case of his mugshot by comparing it to other popular ones.
He seemed to have an idea for categories of mugshots, saying, "When it comes to the mugshot, you know, there are kind of two different types of mugshots that go out there in the world. There’s the Tiger Woods, Bill Cosby, pathetic figure, mugshot."
Cain placed Trump's mugshot in the other category which according to him included those of Frank Sinatra and Janis Joplin. "...These mugshots, which include people like MLK, these project a different image, not sad and pathetic, but an image of defiance," he said.
'The Five' host was comparing the activist's mugshot taken after the March on Washington for the civil rights of African Americans.
He then went on to add, "...that’s the exact message that Trump wants to convey, because this is defiance in his estimation and his supporters and for much of America against a broken system."
Jessica Tarlov disagrees with Will Cain
The only Democrat on the panel, Tarlov, was not on board with what Cain was trying to suggest in his mugshot bit.
"I don’t think, Will, to your point, that anyone except the biggest Donald Trump fans is sitting there thinking that that mugshot has anything to do with what it looked like when MLK had his mugshot taken," the host said.
She further added about people discussing Donald Trump's weight, "I don’t like that kind of commentary. I think it's completely useless and it distracts from the point here."
She also went on to address Trump's multiple felony charges by adding, "Donald Trump was indicted in four jurisdictions around this country by juries of regular Americans in New York and DC and Atlanta and in South Florida, where he calls home."
Tarlov shared the status of a poll about Trump's arrest saying, "There’s new polling out today. 62% think he committed a crime, including 67% of independents. 61% think that he must stand trial before the election. Why?"
She explained, "Because you don’t want to put someone in office who’s going to jail. And 59% think that the DOJ is being fair, that shoots straight through the argument that this is a two-tiered system of justice."
The host also added, "I don’t think when they think of a two-tiered system of justice, they think of a white billionaire who tried to overthrow the election."
