The boys are back indeed. After finishing their quarantine, Rick and Marty Lagina have returned to the mysterious Oak Island in the hope of finally closing in on the treasure and solving the pressing questions that have messed with the minds of historians and researchers for centuries.

The synopsis for the second episode reads, "Out of quarantine and ready for action, Rick, Marty and the team unearth hard evidence of a centuries-old tar kiln, suggesting significant industry happened on Oak Island long before the discovery of the Money Pit."

The premiere of Season 8 was an exciting one, as they almost discovered gold, courtesy of their diver Tyler Newton. Newton decided to go 170 feet underground and found a "gold shiny" object, which slipped through his fingers and fell, plunging further underground. This could have been the key to the legendary treasure that was said to have been buried on the island, centuries before, and might just be a historical breakthrough.

They came to the conclusion that is a gold triangle of sorts right there...which leads the team to conclude that there are multiple gold and shiny things down in the mysterious depths of the island. Meanwhile, Gary Drayton made a crucial discovery. He finds an old coin and is certain that it belongs to the 1700s. It is one of the oldest, he says, based on the shape and patina.

It has a square hole in the middle, and he is sure that it isn't European and is from "somewhere more exotic". He says there is decoration around it and it is not perfectly round. It is left to be ascertained whether this really is the "top pocket" find as he believes or is it just another disappointment.

In the finale of Season 7, we saw the Fellowship conducting seismic testing as that pointed towards the possibility of a sunken ship in the triangle-shaped swamp. They had investigated the swamp throughout Season 7 and plan to return to it in Season 8 as they're still sure it holds a lot of answers to their questions.

'The Curse Of Oak Island' airs on History Channel at 9 pm on Tuesdays.
