'The Curse Of Oak Island' Season 8 Episode 1 Preview: Did the Laginas just discover gold thanks to Gary Drayton?
Oak Island fans, your favourite show is back! 'The Curse Of Oak Island' returns this week as brothers Marty and Rick Lagina continue in their unstoppable quest to solve the burning riddle of the island. Will they find treasure finally in this season? Or...will they find more clues that may or may not lead them to the treasure, but other hidden secrets on the island?
In a sneak footage we got to see of the Season 8 premiere, the Lagina brothers hold a Zoom call to get their plan in action, as Covid-19 has made a dent in their schedules. The pandemic had impacted the filming of the series, just like all other shows. However, in the footage, we get a tantalising glimpse of the brothers catching up with the rest of Oak Island, discussing exciting new theories and potential discoveries. This time, like every other time, they're sure that they will finally get to the bottom of the Oak Island mystery that has troubled historians and scholars for over a century.
In the preview, Oak Island researcher Doug Crowell discusses two historic surveys previously carried out by two treasure-hunters on the island, Fred Nolan and Dan Blankenship, which were never followed up. This is despite the fact that the two surveys indicated underground tunnels, including one that leads to the Money Pit. One survey also shows that there are four possible targets of buried non-ferrous metals, which as the team’s metal-detecting expert Gary Drayton points out, could just be gold. But Gary earlier thought he had found silver, so it's hard to say. The episode synopsis reads as, "In the midst of a worldwide pandemic, Rick, Marty and the team return to Oak Island. Armed with evidence of possible tunnels leading to the Money Pit, the fellowship is convinced they have the tools to solve the Oak Island mystery once and for all."
For years, treasure hunters have scoured Oak Island thoroughly, in the hope that they will be the ones to extricate wooden chests filled with gold. The tale behind this manic search began centuries before the show ‘The Curse Of Oak Island’, in 1795, young men discovered a depression in the ground beneath an old oak tree on Oak island, leading them to the conclusion that there’s treasure buried there. The hunt continued in the late 1800s, with little success but more ferocity. And then began the "curse" where five humans perished in the hunt for buried treasure. According to the legend, in order to solve the Oak Island mystery, seven had to die. And so, the Lagina brothers, decided to take on the task head-on in 2006.
'The Curse Of Oak Island' airs on History Channel, Tuesdays, at 9 pm.
