'The Chi' Season 3 Episode 9 Review: It's a killer blow and a bittersweet end to Ntare Mwine's Ronnie Davis

It was redemption for Ronnie. This was a man who after losing everything in life slowly got back to his feet, turned spiritual, rescued Kiesha and was on the cusp of rekindling lost love and respect

Spoilers for 'The Chi' Season 3 Episode 9: 'Lackin'

Back when Ntare Mwine in an exclusive with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) said his character, Ronnie would find his Polaris, his death wasn't what we had in mind. 'Lackin' was all quiet and normal until the final few seconds when Ronnie gets a bullet to the head. As sad as it may seem, there's solace that he probably died a quick death and without suffering and in his last few days, he's been more happy than he was for the last two seasons.

Ronnie's death was a classic case of revenge for his past deeds. And while 'The Chi' fans would be happy for Emmett Washington (Jacob Latimore) as he's finally managed to get some part of his life right. And thankfully, we were proven wrong about a divorce between him and Tiffany (Hannaha Hall) after his fling with Dom (La La Anthony). Guess the romp gave him perspective as he gets engaged to Tiff. Dom looks like she's taken it in her stride, but this is 'The Chi' and anything can happen.

The Williams seemed to be in a better place than they were. With Kiesha (Birgundi Baker) back home and starting therapy, their lives slowly limp back to track, except the teen discovers she is pregnant. Kiesha's world may have come crashing down, but this latest piece of news may have probably pushed her over the edge. She may not be showing it as much she shows the trauma of her abduction, but with one more episode to go, the story is far from over.

And now that it's slowly sunk in that Ronnie's dead, perhaps we should have seen this coming. It was redemption for Ronnie. It always was. This was a man who after losing everything in life slowly got back to his feet, turned spiritual, rescued Kiesha and was on the cusp of rekindling lost love and respect. Heck, he even had his last meal the way he wanted before being killed. But that's how 'The Chi' always operated. Unpredictability has been the show's forte and it lives up to it with twists like these.

Speaking of twists, it does appear that Camille Hallaway (Lena Waithe) isn't done yet. With Jake Taylor (Michael V Epps) and Trig (Luke James) digging dirt on Otis Douda Perry (Curtiss Cook) and handing it over to Hallaway's office, there's more action and fireworks we can expect from the upcoming episode and we can be positive that a Season 4 is in the works. Life in the south side has a story to tell every day and 'The Chi' in particular has enough to narrate for another two seasons at the minimum.

With Ronnie's death, 'Lackin' ends on a bittersweet note. For a show that trends highly on Twitter during the airtime, we won't be surprised if things blow up on the platform. And much like the world, we cannot wait for what happens in the finale.

'The Chi' Season 3 airs Sundays 9 pm ET on Showtime.
