'The Chi' Season 3 Episode 5 Review: The spotlight is back on Kiesha Williams even as Kevin and Jada find love

Despite the soulful hits in Nina Simone's 'I Put A Spell on You', Smith's 'Clumsy' and Von Freeman's 'Blue Press', there is a certain sense of dread that envelopes each time Kiesha fills the screen

Spoilers for 'The Chi' Season 3 Episode 5 'Terror Town'

A major south side blackout serves as the backdrop for an episode that finally reveals the fate of Kiesha Williams (Birgundi Baker). Hallelujah, she's alive. Kicking? Barely. It is quite obvious she was kidnapped and is now locked up in a psychopath's house. Clearly, it does look like the man is a creep as he puts surveillance throughout the house including the toilet. Meanwhile, Papa (Shamon Brown), Maisha (Genesis Denise Hale), Kevin (Alex Hibbert) and Jemma (Judae'a) bond at a party thrown by Emmett (Jacob Latimore) at Sonny's.

Even as the episodes dishes out some soulful hits in Nina Simone's 'I Put A Spell on You', Smith's 'Clumsy' and Von Freeman's 'Blue Press', there is a certain sense of dread that envelopes each time Kiesha fills the screen. Such is the impact of the character's return that just about every other plotline takes a backseat and is close to fading away from memory. For Jada (Yolonda Ross), the newfound relationship with Tomas Gutierrez (Salvador Chacon) is the start of a new journey.

The same could be said for Kevin and Jemma as they shape up to be a solid pair for the season, much to Jake's (Michael V Epps) chagrin. Emmett may have had a resounding win with Dom's (La La Anthony) cooking and the party of sorts during the blackout. That said, he also gets caught red-handed by Sonny (Clarence E. Davis) who shames him for going behind his back. Whether this signals the end of his deal with Dom or opens up new avenues after a heart-to-heart with Sonny is something the season will have to answer over time.

Otis Douda Perry (Curtiss Jackson) might be a calm man with a million-dollar smile, but when messed with will surely make things go south. His physical attack on a resident who shows his distaste for him openly scares the living daylights out of Jake as he rushes to Trig (Luke Evans) and Imani (Jasmine Davis).

Trig is honest and open. That earns him major respect from fans. His love for Imani is pure and his support for her is just a hint of how much she means to him. And if he could take care of her like a princess, safe to say, Jake is in good hands. Ronnie (Ntare Mwine) is baptized again by Reverend Jackson (Tory O. Davis) and it marks the new beginning. Plus, he's also the closest to figuring out Kiesha's whereabouts when she lets out a chilling scream while trying to escape in the final minutes of the episode.

'Terror Town' is a neat episode. It finally answers that one question soothing the nerves of fans eager to know about Kiesha. It is intriguing and speaks of the new bonds created, while still keeping Kiesha as the center of attention. Quite simply, 'The Chi' has just doled out another perfect episode.

'The Chi' Season 3 airs Sundays 9 pm ET on Showtime.
