‘The Call to Unite’: Air date, performances and all you need to know about the 24-hour global live-stream event

Over 200 global leaders are joining hands for the global live-stream event, which aims at bringing hope to those suffering the most from the coronavirus pandemic

As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths increases each passing day, influencers and prominent personalities from across the globe are coming together to extend their love and support. 

After music and dance-based virtual events put together by celebrities such as Ryan Seacrest, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, over 200 global leaders are now joining hands for a global live-stream event called ‘The Call to Unite’, which aims at bringing hope to the ones who are scared, anxious and suffering the most from the novel coronavirus. 

Air Date 


‘The Call to Unite’ will air on Friday, May 1 at 8 pm ET and go on until 8 pm ET the next day.

The event will be live-streamed at unite.us and other channels and websites such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, LinkedIn and SiriusXM Stars channel 109 are also providing their platform for the global event. 

What does the event offer?

With over 200 known personalities gracing the event, ‘The Call to Unite’ will showcase a range of performances, including music, dance, poetry, art, yoga, sermon and more. 

The press release for the event reads, "Today, billions of people around the world are isolated and anxious because of the COVID-19 pandemic — unable to gather with loved ones, go to work, or even mourn those they’ve lost. Still, in this moment of isolation, millions are rising to the occasion by showing each other love and support in countless ways. The Call to Unite is a celebration of those acts of humanity, and an invitation to the world to join in lifting one another in this moment of need. We need each other. Now more than ever."

“Throughout the event, global leaders will join citizens of the world in sharing practices, lessons, songs, performances, reflections, and more to help us turn the pain of this moment into the possibility for tomorrow,” it further states.  

Performances

Celebrities such as Jennifer Garner, Mandy Moore, Maria Shriver, Naomi Campbell, Martin Sheen, Quincy Jones, Eva Longoria, Alan Morissette, and Josh Groban are a few among many stars expected to participate in the event. Oprah Winfrey, George W Bush, Tim Shriver and Martin Luther King III are expected to make an appearance as well. 

Showrunners

‘The Call to Unite’ is presented by UNITE in collaboration with Tim Shriver, the chairman and CEO of the Special Olympics, who is also leading the event.
