'The Book of Boba Fett' Ending Explained: How the spin-off sets up Season 2 and 'The Mandalorian' Season 3
It was a gripping and thoroughly entertaining finale of 'The Book of Boba Fett' as Temuera Morrison and Fennec Shand take on the Pyke Syndicate. Before we get down to talking about a potential Season 2, here's a quick read on the final minutes of the episode:
The battle may have been won, but it wasn't an easy task as the Scorpenek annihilator droids cause havoc. It takes Boba and a Rancor to subdue the threat. In all the melee, the Pykes retreat only to be put down by Mando and the rest of the allies. Cad Bane is still at large and appears for a stand-off against Boba that he wins initially.
However, in his gloating parade, he fails to observe that Boba's Gaffi stick sweeps him down and the former fatally stabs Bane to his death. It's an anticlimax that screams revenge for the Tusken Raiders who gave Boba a new lease of life. The Rancor, in the meantime, do a 'King Kong' clambering up a tower, and the attempts to fend him off fail. Mando attempts to calm him down only to be thrown around like a rag doll. Grogu comes to the rescue and uses the Force to put the beast to sleep and then plops down next to it and falls asleep as well.
The aftermath sees Boba regain control of Tatooine while Mando and Grogu head off into the unknown. The post-credits scene shows Marshal Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant) in the Bacta tank with the mod man who put Fennec Shand in shape again hover over him to make some changes. A cybernetic arm maybe?
'The Book of Boba Fett' Ending Explained: Will there be a Cobb Vanth spin-off?
It shouldn't come as a surprise if 'Star Wars' greenlights a Cobb Vanth spin-off called 'The Marshal' or 'Free Town' with Boba Fett and Fennec Shand making cameos. Or perhaps include one from Mando as well. The credit scene, despite being acknowledged as just an update on Twitter is perhaps more than just that. With Vanth surviving, odds are that he will get a miniseries of his own — a three-episode one-time drop maybe?
How does 'The Book of Boba Fett' finale set up 'The Mandalorian' Season 3?
Not much is known about what 'The Mandalorian' Season 3 is all about, but what we do know is that Mando and Grogu are back again. They whiz off in their starfighter to an unknown journey and that's where the season can pick up. Episodes 5 and 6 pretty much served as a backdoor pilot and a bonus episode to the new season. Chances are that Din Djarin will resume back his bounty hunting business with a Jedi kid in tow. It's unlikely that they will meet Luke Skywalker again, but with Grogu being a prized possession to the prying eyes, chances are he's a target again in Season 3.
Or maybe there's an old Mando foe we don't know about.
