'The Bold Type' Season 4 Episode 15: Kat and Ava's romance makes viewers 'sick', fans ask where is Adena?
Spoilers for 'The Bold Type' Season 4 Episode 15 'Love'
It is safe to say that 'Love', the latest episode of Freeform's (once-revolutionary) show, was barely liked by anyone. Telling the protagonists' love stories — old and new — in five chapters, the episode was filmed against the backdrop of Richard Hunter (Sam Page) and Sutton Brady's (Meghann Fahy) break up.
Kat Edison (Aisha Dee) kind of expresses her feelings for Ava Rose (Alex Paxton-Beesley) and they kiss. But just like fans, we are not here for it. It is completely irrational to pair an advocate for Black rights with someone like Ava, who wouldn't move an inch in the face of homophobia and whose father funded a conversion therapy. Saying "my sexuality is not my identity" is taking the easy way out.
"I don't know y'all, but these new ships are not working for me. I can't seem to ship Kat with Ava or Jane with Scott. Somthin is lacking," tweeted a fan. "I don't ship Kat and Ava," added another fan with a straight face emoji. "I don’t know what happened to #TheBoldType but I DO KNOW that Kat should NOT be catching feelings for Ava PRODUCERS WE NEED TO F**KING TALK," tweeted an angry viewer.
There is still a handful of those who believe that Kat-Ava attraction is a case of "opposites attract". This is a very superficial observation of a pairing that in this political climate comes with repercussions. Ava is not just a woman who challenges Kat — she is the kind of woman Kat has advocated against. That doesn't make it okay to write a romance between them.
"I know a white woman wrote this Kat/Ava plot b/c having sex with someone who you KNOW doesn't care whether you live or die is some WW sh*t. Black women don't do that #TheBoldType" tweeted a fan.
Remember when Kat punched a guy defending Adena (Nikohl Boosheri)? Remember when Adena literally poured her heart out to Kat recalling the horrible time when she was sent to conversion therapy? How then can she fall for this woman who wouldn't even budge an inch when the Republicans attacked her at the mixer, a woman who defended her father funding conversion therapy?
Fans are wondering where Adena is."Throughout the whole Kat storyline, I’m just waiting for Adena to come bursting into the scene and being like wtf you doing. Of all things.. they really are pairing her with a conservative," tweeted a fan. "First they completely mess up Kat and Adena, having Adena constantly go MIA, show up randomly and then forget about her, then they ruin Ryan/Jane and now Suttard? All these relationships they had us get attach to? Make it make sense. Such a disappointment," added another.
