Spoilers for 'The Bold Type' Season 4 Episode 12 'Snow Day'

One fine morning, New York finds itself submerged under snow with a blizzard that shows no intention of slowing down. And so, everyone at Scarlet is pretty much stuck in the office building. This inevitable confinement eventually leads the characters to resolve some insecurities and issues.

The launch of Jane Sloan's vertical is mere hours away and the first draft of her newest member Scott Coleman's (Mat Vairo) piece doesn't look good to her. So much so that upon resubmission, she goes ahead and completely rehashes the article. A staunch feminist, Jane had disagreed with Scott's perspective and had decided to rewrite his submission.

But when Scott refuses to take a byline, she is confronted with her insecurities as a boss. Just back from her double mastectomy, she has been having a hard time adjusting to work. On top of that, the vertical adds responsibilities. Under the pressure, she finds herself cracking until a conversation with Jacqueline Carlyle (Melora Hardin) clears matters for her.

Like Jane, Sutton Brady (Meghann Fahy) is also a bit on edge. Being a ' 26-year-old pregnant stylist' is her problem for now. She spends the entire episode running around trying to do it all, make it all happen. But by the time the blizzard settles down, she seems to have better control of her situation. However, it looks like this is going to be Sutton's theme this season.

Kat Edison, on the other hand, is faced with a unique problem. Ava Rose (Alex Paxton-Beesley) visits Belle, the private club where Kat is currently bartending and they have a bit of an exchange. Ava's father RJ Safford (Aidan Devine) was fired last season, credit Kat, who also lost her job at Scarlet. Ava, obviously isn't over that yet, but when it comes to it, Ava expresses that she appreciates dissent, also noting that she is against conversion therapy.

But that aside, did we see some chemistry? Is that in store for Kat this season? The hope for her reunion with Adena El Amin (Nikohl Boosheri) is long abandoned but if Ava is recurring in her life this season, perhaps...

While we are at it, let's discuss that scene with Jane and Scott. The pair surely had some chemistry, especially when the two shared a drink and lightly flirted with each other. If a "woke"show like 'The Bold Type' is head towards an office romance, we won't be quite up for it. In today's workplace culture, this is going to be looked down upon and no rosy portrayal of it, no matter how politically correct, will fly. This is a drab narrative to provide Jane with a partner. Especially that sequence towards the end where Sutton and Kat tease her (cringe).

Directed by Melora Hardin, the episode explores how confinement leads to surprising revelations. Each character tonight comes to a revealing conclusion: Jane about feminism and being a boss, Sutton about motherhood and career and Kat about people. Oliver Grayson (Stephen Conrad Moore) too arrives at the conclusion that people must be given second chances, having been staunchly against it just a while back.

Had the blizzard not locked the crew inside the building, given time to reflect on the past and future, the day would have turned out differently. Guess it came with silver linings.

'The Bold Type' airs Thursdays at 10 pm ET/PT on Freeform.
