Director Matt Reeves' world of 'The Batman' is getting a spin-off on television through HBO. This spin-off is expected to explore a universe across multiple platforms. It is said to build on the film’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City. Reeves said about the project, "This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a long-form format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream."

However, many of the fans do not share the same excitement as Reeves because the idea of exploring Gotham through alternative characters and story arcs have already been done in the show titled 'Gotham'. So many fans have asked why not bring back 'Gotham' instead of building a brand new world that explores the same idea? A few have also said that the fact that Reeves is involved in the project gives credibility and is hence worth considering over rebooting 'Gotham'. One fan said, "Loved Gotham ok it could be inconsistent but they did some great stuff not better just different but come on if Matt reeves is involved it's going to be worth watching."

Another fan said, "Isn’t this what Gotham was supposed to be before they decided to focus on little Bruce Wayne." Variations of "Wasn't there already a Gotham series?" and "Can’t we bring back Gotham instead??? #SaveGotham" were also shared widely on Twitter.  One angry Batman fan also shared, "Dear Warner Bros... No one asked you for another Gotham TV show. No one is asking for all of this Gotham content without Batman. It hasn’t worked yet, and it still won’t work."

A few fans have also pointed out that if the show's source material happens to be Gotham Central, then it would be worth it. One fan wrote, "'Gotham Central' was a good book honestly so if they went from that source material it should be decent."

Reeves' 'The Batman' starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role, Zeo Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon is slated to release in October 2021. The film was initially expected to release in June 2021, however, it was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
