'The Alienist: Angel Of Darkness' Season 2 finale: Is Violet pregnant with John's baby? Fans think she's lying

'She's lucky they didn't have paternity testing back then, because I'm pretty sure that he ain't the daddy. Like let's really be real here on that one! #TheAlienist,' tweeted a fan

*Dun dun dun*  Well, so much for that. If viewers thought that they would see a happy ending for John Moore (Luke Evans) and Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) after an entire season worth of build-up, they couldn't be more wrong. In the most predictable plot twist, John's fiancee Violet is pregnant after their little tryst that really wasn't so long ago.

There has been much tension between John and Sara for the entire season, and everyone around them knew they were in love, but they skirted around that fact. They even slept together, but even after that, Sara was hesitant about accepting her feelings for him. Just as they finally acknowledged and professed their love for each other, Violet turned up and announced that she was pregnant. But is she actually? Fans are in two minds and believe that she is using the "oldest trick" in the book. And for all we know, she most likely is.

"WTF?!? I don’t believe Violet. She’ll do anything to keep her man. I wish DNA existed back then! This tender moment with John & Sara is so sad, cathartic and tragic. #TheAlienist," a fan tweeted.

"Violet did that on purpose," tweeted another.

"I think Violet is using the oldest trick in the book. #TheAlienist #AngelOfDarkness," a fan wrote.

"She's lucky they didn't have paternity testing back then, because I'm pretty sure that he ain't the daddy. Like let's really be real here on that one! #TheAlienist," tweeted another fan.

"And he didn't think maybe Violet was lying? Hmmm??? #TheAlienist," a fan wrote.

Nevertheless, this puts an end to the John-Sara love story for now. However, though Sara is heartbroken, she is determined to not let this overwhelm her and gives an empowering speech to the women in office. The TNT show's Season 2 has a bittersweet ending, as John leaves with Violet, and Laszlo heads to Vienna with Karen Stratton. Romance and heartbreak go hand-in-hand, we suppose. It's surprising that they managed to find time for this as most of the time they were trying to track down a serial killer, who's held a knife to their throats at several points during the season.

All's well that ends well?
