'The Alienist: Angel Of Darkness' Season 2 finale: John and Sara part ways, fans slam show for 'lousy ending'

Not all love stories have a happy ending, as 'The Alienist: Angel Of Darkness' proved. *Sigh* excuse us, while we John-Sara fans shed a few tears.  After chasing a serial killer throughout the course of the season, John Moore (Luke Evans) and Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) finally confronted their feelings for each other. There has been much back-and-forth on this, as Sara had spent most of the season denying her feelings for him because she was afraid of putting it into words. She believed that they 'wanted different things' and just as she was about to change her mind, John's fiancee, Violet Hayward (Emily Barber) turned up and announced that she was pregnant.

And so, after what seems like much build-up and sexual tension, John and Sara decided to part ways on an amicable note. Sara tells John in her quiet and non-dramatic way that she is 'happy for him, sad, but happy', and with a heavy heart, he goes to live a life with Violet. Fans are convinced that Violet is lying about her pregnancy and say she's lucky that there was no paternity testing at that time. Others are busy slamming the show for the 'lousy' ending and saying that John and Sara deserved to be together. Well, we can't have everything, can we?

"Don’t mind me, I’m just over here crying in a corner over the lousy ending. Sara’s heart was shattered and John ends up with a hateful woman only because she’s having his child. I mean, really? Is that how we’re ending #TheAlienist," a fan sobbed.

"I refuse to believe that ending for Sara and John. I disbelieved that there is pure and tender love like theirs. #TheAlienist," a fan wrote.

"Teasing John and Sara all season long, making it glaringly obvious that John wanted Sara & she wanted him, only for that society b***h to end up pregnant, trapping John in a relationship he didn't want and ruining any chance of John and Sara ever getting together #TheAlienist," wrote another fan.

"John deserved to be happy. damn. Only a John and Sara fanfic could take this pain away from me #TheAlienist," a fan wrote.

"What was the point of bringing up the Sara and John relationship again if the writers were just going to pull the same storyline? #TheAlienist," one wrote.

'The Alienist: Angel Of Darkness' is a TNT show and airs on Sunday nights at 9 pm.
