Two teenagers in France sparked death threats from across the country after they were seen putting a helpless kitten inside a microwave and turning it on in a sickening video.
The harrowing footage, which was originally shared via Snapchat and later went viral on Twitter, showed a pair of giggling teens from Dunkirk force the feline inside the electronic appliance as it desperately tried to resist. The perpetrators then turned on the microwave and while the kitten whimpered and scrambled inside in a bid to get out, Daily Mail reported.
The video includes a caption saying, "Think I'm going to hell."
Needless to say, a number of people were less-than-happy about the animal cruelty act. "Please deal with this urgently & accordingly. Possibly register the cat owner in a mental institute with a straight jacket along with anyone who finds this remotely acceptable or find hilarity in this by 'forgetting the cat'," one person commented, while another said, "I feel sickened, how can your stomach take this cruelty even if your heart does."
Yet a third said, "Please tell me they didn’t just kill this cat. Someone find me their address and I’ll go to their house and tell them how f***ed up this is."
After public outrage over the video, the Dunkirk Animal Protection Society (SPA) shared screenshots of the video on their Facebook, assuring animal lovers that the kitten was safely rescued by the charitable organization.
"The SPA wants to reassure all those concerned about what has become of this little kitty. He's alive and fine. The video broadcast on Snapchat is an absolute horror, the poor kitten fighting all his strength screaming in pain. We will not put this video on our page, not to shock and reveal the faces of these two idiots even if they deserve it. We managed to get their names, their residence and of course a complaint of abuse was made," Dunkirk's SPA said in a statement.
In a separate followup post, the organization refuted rumors that the names and the addresses of the youngsters responsible for the act were revealed.
"Know that much of this information is totally false!" The SPA wrote. "The address provided regarding one of the teenagers is absolutely not his own but that of a poor lady living alone and having nothing to do with this story! In addition, the families of teenagers receive threats too; these teenagers no longer live at home. We are not judges, no lawyers, no police ... Justice must and will do its job!"
