'Teen Mom' star Mackenzie McKee branded 'racist' for saying 'colored' Kamala Harris is not a role model
'Teen Mom' star Mackenzie McKee faced backlash for calling Vice President Kamala Harris "colored" and not a role model that youngsters should look up to in a number of posts on Facebook, screenshots of which went viral on Reddit. She started receiving hate from her followers who called her "racist", "ignorant" and "dumb".
Just 10 days after Harris made history as the first woman and woman of color as well as the first woman of Asian-descent to ascend to vice presidency, Mackenzie, 26, shared a Facebook post by a social media user that outlined some of the reasons they didn’t think Harris was fit for her role. "Sorry, no," she wrote, "There are a lot of amazing women in the world for my daughters to look up to and see as role models. Kamala Harris is not one of them."
When one of her followers said they agreed with the message, the mother-of-three replied, saying, "I started reading the first paragraph and I was like umm imma have to disagree,” the person wrote. “Then kept reading and I’m like yep, that’s why we’re friends. It blows my mind that out of all the amazing colored women in this world, that is the one who is making history."
Next, the MTV personality was slammed by a number of her followers. One of them wrote, "Mackenzie McKee 'colored women', you know better," alluding to the fact that black Americans were forced to use separate public areas under Jim Crow laws in accordance with segregation in the 1960s. Although the post was made nearly a week ago, it just started to go viral on Reddit on January 28.
This attracted the attention of a number of people who claimed that MTV should penalize Mackenzie because of the language she used on social media. “Mackenzie really calls people ‘colored’ in 2021. The CAUCASITY of this bitch,” read the title of the thread. “Wow. If David [Eason] got fired for his comment about gays, Mackenzie needs to be fired for this comment. Fucking disgusting,” one person wrote. “Fucking fire this bitch MTV gross,” one of them said.
Another added, "Just put your Trump hat on & say you don’t like her because she has brown skin & you’re all kinds of racist. Stupid cunt who can’t even give her children proper names." One said, "FUCK I HATE HER," while another demanded, "Somebody get this bitch off TV." Another said, "Oh geeeeeez that's awful. How are people STILL this ignorant." Others spoke of her White privilege. "I was like wow she's dumb, then I swiped to the next screenshot. Wooooooooooooooow she's fucking dumb and a racist," a person wrote.
McKee has had her fair share of controversies in the recent past. She recently accused her husband of seven years, Josh, of having an “emotional” affair with her cousin. At the time, she falsely alleged that Josh was cheating on her. “We’re not together,” Mackenzie said on Teen Mom OG. “I don’t know what Josh is going to do. I don’t know if he’s going to serve me with papers. But here I am — I’ve been with him for 12 years, and now I’m single. Josh and I got into a huge fight. He moved his stuff out and we haven’t talked since,” she said, adding: Josh “has never been this mad at me".
Later, she regretted the same and the fact that she aired her dirty laundry in public. "Our relationship has always been up and down, and I've always shared our personal issues with the tabloids. But a couple of weeks ago I went through Josh's phone and assumed the worst, and I posted about it on social media It was a huge mistake because it wasn't true. I tried to clear it up but it was too late," she said. The two did manage to get back together again, however, since then, Mackenzie said she isn’t speaking to her cousin or that side of her family any longer.
