Ted Wayman: Boston TV reporter stabbed with scissors in unprovoked attack while covering a story
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: TV reporter Ted Wayman is recovering "well" after being stabbed in an unprovoked, sudden attack while he was reporting on a story in Copley Square. A reporter for WCVB-TV Channel 5, Wayman was stabbed in the arm with a pair of scissors on Sunday, September 6 night when he was covering a story on the public square in Boston's Back Bay area.
WCVB spokesperson Ro Dooley Webster said Wayman is "going to be fine" despite reports that it was a "severe" injury that landed him in the hospital. "Ted is doing well and will be back at work in the coming days," Webster added. Wayman, who was accompanied by a photojournalist that night, was rushed to a local hospital by Boston EMS. The photojournalist was not injured.
Around 9 pm, Boston Police responded to the intersection of Dartmouth and Boylston streets, located at the northwest corner of Copley Square, according to a police report. While police are yet to confirm that Wayman is the victim, the report says he claimed to have "had several interactions with the suspect who had been antagonizing the victim as well as other individuals in the area throughout the day."
"The victim stated that when he asked the suspect to leave him alone, the suspect responded by taking out a pair of scissors and in a threatening manner, the suspect held the scissors above his head in a closed grip," the report continued. "The suspect then began stabbing the passenger’s side window of the victim’s van multiple times, causing scratches to the glass window. As the victim attempted to close the door to the van, the suspect stabbed him on the left forearm causing a severe laceration," it ended.
The victim, according to police, somehow managed to close the car door during the attack, prompting the suspect to run off on Boylston St towards the Prudential Center. Police apprehended 44-year-old Cirilo Aldana-Peraedes at the corner of Blagden and Exeter Sts. According to the report, Aldana-Peraedes was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon following a positive identification.
In July, we reported how a Black "conservative videographer" known for his outspoken support of President Donald Trump and his conservative beliefs was stabbed outside a federal courthouse in Portland. Andrew Duncomb, 25, who goes by the moniker 'Black Rebel,' was stabbed on July 25 after he traveled to Portland from his home in Northern California to film protests outside the Mark O Hatfield United States Courthouse and County Justice Center.
At the time, Duncomb said he made his way to Portland to document how it wasn't just the federal authorities who were creating problems, as has been depicted by mainstream media who have shown footage of them firing tear gas and impact munitions into crowds. He claimed those familiar with his work — he has repeatedly called out protesters for being violent while siding with the authorities and has also defended Confederate flags and monuments on social media — had alerted activists of his presence at the protests shortly after his arrival and made him a target.
