Teacher accused of sending nude pics to teenage student and having sex with him in an SUV behind a hotel
Lindsey M. Halstead was charged after the teen told police officials that he had sex with the former Waterloo High School teacher in Seneca Falls last year
According to accounts of a 16-year-old boy who spoke to state police, a gym teacher in upstate New York allegedly sent him nude photos before having sex with him in a car behind a hotel. Court records also confirmed the same and stated that the 29-year-old teacher was arrested on Tuesday, May 14, earlier this week on charges of sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child.
Lindsey M. Halstead was charged after the teen told police he had sex with the former Waterloo High School teacher in Seneca Falls, state police announced. She was employed by the Waterloo Central School District for four years until February 2018 before joining the Midlakes School District as a long-term substitute.
State police further confirmed that Halstead was fired from her substitute position last month. Court records obtained by the Post-Standard indicated that the teen told investigators in May about the alleged sexual encounter in November 2018, months after Halstead had been the boy’s gym teacher during the 2017-18 school year.
The gym teacher reached out to the teen on social media platform Snapchat in September while working in her new job and started sending him nude photos within weeks, the teen told the police. After sending the student her racy pictures, Halstead wondered if the teen planned to return the favor, asking if he was "going to send her something," reports stated.
Halstead, according to reports, later picked the teen up from a library in Waterloo and had sex in the backseat of her SUV while parked behind a Hampton Inn in Seneca Falls, he told the police. "I was pretty quiet and I just said a few words," the teen told police of his demeanor after the alleged encounter.
On the other hand, Halstead was upbeat, the teen told the police. She seemingly enjoyed the alleged encounter, and later once again contacted the teen on Snapchat and Instagram, prompting him to block her, which was confirmed by court records. "At this point, I was like, this is weird, why is she still texting me," the teen told detectives.
The case is currently under further investigation and the teacher is expected to face additional charges. A state police spokesman said that investigators circulated Halstead’s booking photo in case additional victims may recognize her.
