A dramatic video footage revealed the chilling moment a doctor in Tampa rushed to help a panicked woman whose pet dog almost got strangled in an elevator at his apartment building.

According to footage aired by WTSP News in Tampa, Doctor Mohammed Awad can be seen walking into the lobby of the Olympus Harbor Island Apartments on Sunday, December 29.

He was seen holding on to a package as he walked along when the dog in front of him gets his leash caught in the closing elevator doors. The dog is then yanked by its collar and starts to choke.

The woman who was walking the dog starts to get frantic and desperately tries to free the pooch from the leash stuck in the elevator. Awad is seen dropping his package and rushing to assist the woman. "The dog was basically like, choking, choking, choking," Awad shared.

He added, "I’m busy trying to break the leash away from the dog’s neck. You can see in the video, my first try, I couldn’t get it. I basically looked up, all in one second, I said, 'I can’t get it. It's too hard. I'm going to try it one more time, give it everything I had'."

"I jumped up again and I basically, last minute, got it. The dog basically had one or two seconds left," he continued. The dog was then seen falling to the ground and running off into the lobby. The woman was not identified and since the incident, Awad has not run into her.

However, the good deed did not go unacknowledged and Awad's brother, Faris, took to Facebook to share the video footage. Faris posted the video along with the caption, "My Brother saved a dog's life."

Many social media users took to commenting on the post and praising Awad's fast thinking. One user shared, "Thank you for sharing this. Thank your brother for all of us dog-loving humans!" while another user added, "Thank you for saving the dog. We are proud you are a Tampian."
