LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In 'Sweet Home' Season 2, Park Gyu-young’s character, Ji-su, faced an unfortunate fate that left many fans disappointed. As the series expanded its cast with new characters, the original protagonists, including Ji-su, were pushed into the background.

Despite the anticipation surrounding the return of the Green Home residents, Ji-su only appeared in three episodes, significantly reducing her screen time and impact on the story. This shift in focus, especially given the buildup of her character in Season 1, felt like a missed opportunity.

With 'Sweet Home' Season 3 scheduled to premiere on July 19, 2024, fans are hoping for a more satisfying conclusion to Ji-su's arc. As the series heads towards its grand finale, it is crucial to revisit and honor the characters who played significant roles from the beginning.

How did Ji-su unexpectedly die in 'Sweet Home' Season 2?

In 'Sweet Home' Season 2, Park Gyu-young’s character, Ji-su, meets a tragic end in Episode 3. Ji-su, Eun-yu, and the other remaining Green Home residents were trying to reach a safety zone following the destruction of their building, only to encounter other monsters on the way.

To prevent the monster curse from spreading, the military bombards the city, causing a bridge to collapse and trapping Ji-su in the wreckage, sealing her fate. Despite being a fan favorite and a significant character in the original webtoon, Ji-su's role was disappointingly short.

In the webtoon, there were hints of romantic feelings between Hyun-su and Ji-su, but the Netflix adaptation did not explore this. In fact, Hyun-su and Ji-su did not share any scenes in Season 2, and Hyun-su only learns of her death several episodes later.

The handling of Ji-su's character in Season 2 left fans wanting more, especially given her importance in the source material and her impactful presence in Season 1.

The unfulfilled potential of Ji-su's character

Ji-su, a young guitarist in the Green Roof apartment, exuded a high-spirited and resilient nature despite her past traumas. Losing her boyfriend to suicide deeply affected her, leading to mental breakdowns, yet she masked her pain with a bubbly exterior.

Clinging to the guitar her boyfriend gave her, Ji-su's respect and regard for her loved ones remained strong, influencing her to value life more. Her empathetic nature shone through when she persuaded Hyun-su, who also had a traumatic past, to appreciate life's beauty and reconsider suicide.

Ji-su’s resilience and determination to fight the monsters and survive highlighted her inner strength. As for her return in Season 3, the possibilities lie in flashbacks or dream sequences, given her significant impact on the characters, especially Hyun-su.

Her spirit and influence could play a crucial role in guiding the remaining characters, adding depth to the ongoing storyline, and honoring her contribution to their survival journey. But an upcoming show can be a treat for Park's fans.

Park Gyu-young will star in 'Squid Game' Season 2, set to release in 2024. Although her character Ji-su may not return in 'Sweet Home' Season 3 unless, through flashbacks or dream sequences, fans can look forward to seeing Park shine in another major Netflix K-drama.

'Squid Game' Season 2 will bring back familiar faces like Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun while introducing new characters, including Park's new role as one of the game’s participants.

'Squid Game' premiered shortly after 'Sweet Home' and demonstrated the massive success of Korean dramas on Netflix.

The long-awaited sequel, arriving three years after the original, is highly anticipated and could surpass its predecessor’s success. Fans are eager to see if Park’s character will survive the brutal challenges of the game, making her appearance a treat for viewers.
