Spoiler alert for 'Swamp Thing' Episode 2

In what appears to be a welcome move, which was a long time due, the superhero universe has finally introduced queer superheroes and characters on their shows. DC's 'Supergirl' and 'Batwoman' have already established LGBTQ characters on their shows and the latest entrant to this list is the superhero-horror series 'Swamp Thing', that has one queer character, Liz Tremayne, played by Maria Sten.

In the show, Sten's Tremayne is shown to be in a romantic relationship with Margo, and in an exclusive with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), Sten was happy that the practice of introducing queer characters in the list of shows has continued.

"I see it to be good and necessary to talk about," she said. "The creators and we were pretty adamant on diversifying the show and make it a representation of what people in America look like." The 29-year old also credited the creators for introducing the trait in the show. "I commend them for that," Sten remarked. "It's about time to normalize the LGBTQ characters," she said.

According to the comics, Liz Tremayne is shown to be a lesbian and the creators have ensured that the representation of the character is the same on the TV show. Sten's character, Tremayne plays a local reporter in the show and is shown as a no-nonsense character who can more than just hold her own. She's also seen as Abby Arcane's (Crystal Reed) close friend on the show.  The other character in the show who is gay is Leonardo Ham's Harlan Edward.

'Swamp Thing' also stars Andy Bean as Alec Holland, Derek Mears as Swamp Thing, Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Henderson Wade as Matthew Cable, Will Patton as Avery Sunderland, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, Kevin Durand as Jason Woodrue, Jennifer Beals as Lucilia Cable and Leonardo Nam as Harlan Edward.

The show is based on DC Comics of the same name written by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.  Len Wiseman, Gary Dauberman, Mark Verheiden, James Wan, and Michael Clear serve as executive producers.

'Swamp Thing' airs on DC Universe every Friday at  6 am PST and 9 am EST.
