'Survivor: Island of the Idols' Season 39: Fans term huge statues of mentors 'Boston Rob' Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine 'unwanted'

Fans said the statues didn't deserve to be there and no one would recognize those to be of Rob or Sandra without seeing them near it.

'Survivor: Island of the Idols' Season 39 returned to our screens on September 25 and while fans and viewers were excited about the premiere, they couldn't get over one thing - the massive Mt. Rushmore-size statues of “Boston Rob” Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine, the mentors this season.

The fans enjoyed the premiere thoroughly but said the statues of “Boston Rob” Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine were unwanted, as one would not be able to recognize them at the start. Some also stated that it was a bit over the top.

The first episode started off with a bang, though Jeff Probst wasn't at the entrance of the island marooning the tribe once they entered, they managed to make it through the day. The Lairo tribe and Vokai tribe immediately got down to business at their side of the island making fire, catching fish, building shelter, etc.

In no time, the contestants were already making their own pack based on who to trust, who not to and who to take down. We saw Jason wander away from his Vokai tribe within an hour of being on the island searching for the immunity tribe and Vonnie from the Lairo tribe gets targeted by most of his team members. Day 2, ready for their first immunity challenge, though Lairo tribe was off to a great start, the Vokai tribe won it gloriously, securing their tribe flint and immunity.

Though all this was enjoyable, things took a turn for fans when Elizabeth was sent to the Island of the Idols. Not knowing what to expect, fans and viewers were thrown off when they saw Mt. Rushmore-size statues of “Boston Rob” Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine. As the mentors of the season, Rob and Sandra have their own oath. They will not be competing for the million dollars, they will not be able to vote, they will only help mentor the castaways on Survivor.

Though Elizabeth recognized the duo the second she saw the statues, fans claim it was the producers doing it, and that no one would have been able to guess that the statues were of Rob or Sandra without seeing them near it. Taking to Twitter, fans stated that the creation of the statues was over the top and didn't deserve to be there.

"I love #Survivor, I’m excited that it’s back, but the Rob and Sandra statues this season are just A BIT over the top," wrote a fan on Twitter. Adding to that, another fan said, "You would hope when you see Elizabeth recognize Boston Rob & Sandra by their statues that she has some game but oof. Still putting the blame on production though. #survivor."

"Sorry. The Sandra and Boston Rob statues will make me laugh out loud *every* time they’re shown. I can’t take this season serious. Because. Statues. Statues of Sandra and Boston Rob. They’re dumb. #Survivor," said a fan.

While another added, "The giant head statues of Sandra and Rob are just weird #Survivor."

"I would not recognize Rob & Sandra from those statues. Trust. #survivor," said another fan.

'Survivor: Island of the Idols' season 39 airs every Wednesday night only on CBS. Check your local listings for more information.
