Mother of one, 30, stabbed to death on NYC subway platform in horrible scuffle caught on camera
Recently released surveillance footage has captured the disturbing moment a woman was stabbed to death during a violent altercation at a New York City subway station.
30-year-old Latanya Watson lost her life after engaging in an argument with another woman, now identified as Mia Simmons, 20, on 3 Line train on Monday night as it arrived in Brownsville, Brooklyn, Daily Mail reports.
The scuffle soon turned violent and spilled onto the busy platform at around 9:15 pm local time.
The two women are seen in CCTV footage crossing the turnstiles and later grabbing each other by the hair.
Watson is seen wearing a beige top and blue jeans as she lunges at Simmons. Meanwhile, the killer is seen wearing a white t-shirt and tattered jeans as she appears to be pushed up against a wall and pepper-sprayed by Watson.
The assailant subsequently brandishes a small knife and stabs Watson several times as the two drag each other by the hair. Police arrested Simmons over the attack late on Tuesday before charging her with manslaughter and possession of a weapon. The cause of the fight is still unclear, and police believe Simmons and Watsons were strangers to each other.
Emergency responders rushed Watson to Brookdale University Hospital, but she died a short time later despite the doctors' best efforts.
Simmons was also injured in the altercation, per The New York Daily News, after police followed a trail of blood to her grandparents' home. Upon arrival at the residence, authorities learned Simmons was being treated at a nearby medical center.
Devastated family members have paid tribute to Watson.
According to them, the retail worker lived just two blocks from the subway station where she was stabbed. She was about to get married and leaves behind a 12-year-old son who is living with her fiance. "My daughter was a beautiful person. She had a job, she was going to work," Watson's father Frank stated, per The Daily News.
Kimberly Jones, her neighbor, told the outlet: "Never in any type of drama. I never even seen her argue with nobody. That girl didn’t have to stab her. That was somebody’s mother, somebody’s fiancé."
