The Republican Party might be witnessing a torrid time as President Donald Trump is battling impeachment but its financial managers can still feel assured. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings made by the national committees of both the GOP and Democratic Party have shown that the former outfit is set to enter 2020 with much more money than its rival. The Republican National Committee (RNC) has, in fact, more than seven times as much cash on hand than the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

According to a report by Bloomberg on December 20, FEC filings showed that the RNC has $63 million in cash on hand compared to the DNC’s $8.3 million.

RNC gained new donors since the impeachment process began

In November, the RNC raised $20.6 million, according to Fox News while the DNC could raise only $8 million, as per the FEC filings. One interesting aspect was that the RNC reported hundreds of thousands of new donors since the Democratic Party started its mission to impeach Trump on charges of misusing his power to gain politically in next year’s presidential election. The GOP, in fact, raised $15 million in just 72 hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the formal launch of the impeachment inquiry in September, Axios reported

According to Axios, the RNC has seen over 600,000 new donors since the impeachment started, RNC’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Mike Reed said. “Voters are consistently expressing how they want Washington to focus on real issues," he was quoted as saying.

The report also cited an official to say that since the impeachment started, a quarter of registrants at Trump’s rally are either self-described Democrats or independents besides low-propensity voters.

The DNC, on the other hand said, it had no specific donor or dollar figures to share on the president’s impeachment, Axios added.
