While the ominously titled but surprisingly cheery Episode 14 'Last Holiday' was the official end of Supernatural's hiatus, it was a stand-alone, self-contained episode. The only reference we got to the 'End Times' story arc was Dean telling Mrs. Butters that he saw "nothing" when he peered through the multiverse telescope, to which Mrs. Butters said, "well, that's not good".

Essentially God aka Chuck has been putting out universes with a snap of his fingers, Thanos-style, and the Original Earth (rather Sam and Dean's Earth) is all that's left of the multiverse. There have already been jokes by fans that 'our' Earth's pandemic, where Sam and Dean are Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles, is also part of Chuck's evil masterplan.

But jokes aside, Episode 15 is the real start of the final finale story arc so it is time to buckle up. In the directors' chair is Matt Cohen, who played young John Winchester, Archangel Michael and Lucifer (in disguise) once upon a time on the show and known figure on the 'Supernatural' convention circuit. Needless to say, he is deeply attuned to the show's DNA. So it will be interesting to see how he directs the episode that essentially sets everything up.

Here is what we know about the upcoming Episode 15 'Gimme Shelter'. The official synopsis of the show reveals that Castiel (Misha Collins) and Jack (Alexander Calvert) work a case involving members of a local church. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) go off in search of Amara (guest star Emily Swallow). While for most of the episode, the two teams will split up, there will be some Castiel, Sam and Dean interactions, according to the trailer.

We see Castiel in his usual nanny mode, telling Sam and Dean that they can't just charge in while hunting the most powerful beings in the Universe. Even though an exasperated Dean says they are not, it sure looks like they are. Dean even tells Sam in the car with a sign that they "have to act fast". Sam even asks Castiel to help them get a location -- but for what is not revealed. We also see Castiel and Jack on a lonely stretch of road and doing some tracking of their own. The trailer also has scenes that show a shadowy, unknown figure and someone chained to a bed after Jack and Castiel break into a room with the number 17.

Also, get ready for some 'bad news'. We see Castiel tell Dean that "in case something goes wrong there is something Sam and Dean need to know". Knowing Castiel and how the Winchester brothers' traits have rubbed off on him, he might have made some new self-sacrificial bargain to keep Jack, Sam, and Dean safe if things really go south. So yes, we might not have Castiel in the final episodes -- something fans have already speculated about, which will be a pity. But we will have to wait and find out what Castiel's big reveal will be.

'Supernatural' airs on Thursday, October 15, at 8 PM ET.
