This review contains spoilers for 'Supergirl' season 5, episode 1: 'Event Horizon'

'Supergirl' opened to a pacy beginning. After the traditional recap, 'Event Horizon' was quick to get off the blocks and establish three plotlines that would be pivotal to the series going ahead. Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) wants revenge from Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) for not revealing her true identity.  Kara, on the other end, was planning to tell her the truth anyway, except, Lena already had elaborate plans to expose Kara's identity to the world.

Season 5 ended with Kara's investigative efforts on Lex Luthor earning her a Pulitzer. The ceremony was where, Lena, who would introduce Kara, would also expose her as Supergirl. She puts her plan in motion by selling Catco Media to Andrea Rojas (Julie Gonzalo). Rojas, on her part, has major revamp plans and one of them includes making its editorial decisions. "Everything is about clicks", she says, hinting at a move away from hard-hitting reportage to glossy news. "Together, we’re gonna create a worldwide media organization that drives consumer cross-platform engagement,” Andrea says in the clip. “Eyeballs. Revenue. We’re gonna take your already brilliant work and we’re gonna sharpen it until it’s deadly. And we’re gonna monetize it.” Lena would leak the info via CatCo and makes a deal with Rojas that she would be receiving a clip during the awards ceremony.

However, Kara confesses about her true identity just before the award ceremony and thus quashes Lena's plan of exposing the Girl of Steel. Talking to her AI Hope, Lena later reveals that she has bigger plans for Kara and hasn't forgiven her for her betrayal.

'Supergirl' has always been one of those Arrowverse shows that has ample emotion as part of its storyline. In addition to fighting Rojas as a journalist and supervillains as Supergirl, Kara will have to find a way to rekindle her relationship with Lena. However, the Luthors are known to be crafty and ten steps ahead of the world, and these traits could have a lasting impact on Kara and Lena's relationship over the course of the series.

For starters, Lena may just take on Team Supergirl to exact revenge. By breaking her friends, she is sure to live up to her words where she says she wouldn't kill Kara but will make her experience the same hurt that was inflicted on her. The other option is working with Leviathan, the mysterious criminal organization, that was teased in the season 4 finale.

Either way, her quest for revenge is sure to spell trouble for Kara and Team Supergirl.

What are your thoughts on Lena still nursing revenge?

'Supergirl' airs Sundays at 9 pm ET/PT on The CW.
