'Supergirl' season 5 saw an extended trailer of its premiere episode, 'Event Horizon'.  The longer version, in addition to establishing a new threat in Midnight (Jennifer Cheon Garcia ), also shows Lena (Katie McGrath) Luthor plotting her revenge against her former best friend, Kara Danvers/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). The new suit's origins were teased as well.

It was a rough ride for Lena Luthor in season 4. Her world turned upside down when her evil brother, Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) revealed that Kara was hiding her superhero identity. The season ended with Lena feeling bitter about the betrayal. The new footage shows her making plans to hurt Kara. "I'm not a villain," Lena says in voiceover narration. "I don't want to kill Supergirl. I just want her to experience the same hurt she inflicted on me. Soon enough, she will."

Benoist had earlier teased a dark turn for Lena during the San Diego Comic-Con.  "This season’s going to be a fight for Lena’s soul,” Benoist said. "I was devastated that it was Lex Luthor that told her. That was such a shot in the heart to Lena, a character that my character loves so dearly. It was painful."

In addition to all this is the new suit that Kara dons in the upcoming season. The suit up is quite similar to Iron Man's Mark 50 and Mark 85. Our guess is the suit uses nanotech to materialize whenever Kara needs it to.  The newest addition to the suit being pants. The trailer includes a cameo appearance from the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett), who will be instrumental to the upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover. However, the scene in the trailer appeared as a stinger at the end of Season 4.

The official season premiere premise reads: "Kara (Melissa Benoist) is surprised to find that CatCo has a new owner who has brought in a star reporter. New couples emerge and explore their budding relationships while J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) receives an unexpected visitor."

'Supergirl' season 5 will debut on Sunday, October 6th on The CW.
