'Supergirl' Season 5: Lex, Lena and Leviathan could be the three-headed monster that Kara may have to fight

Judging by the way things are headed, it seems as if the finale of the fifth season would be a combat with the Lex-Lena-Leviathan trio

The previous episode of 'Supergirl' was dark and ominous due to the presence of the sinister Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer). He was killed by his sister Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) in the Season 4 finale, only to return during the 'The Crisis On Infinite Earths'. The world ended and was restored, but with a twist.

Lex is now a celebrated hero on this Earth and heads the DEO, much to the shock of Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) and Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh).  He has been trying to convince everyone that he has noble intentions, but sadly, no one from the Super squad to the fans believes him in the slightest. Sure enough, a couple of episodes after the Crisis, Lex is keen on tracking down the eerie Leviathan but for some sadistic reasons of his own.

Lena, who is still bitter with Kara for not revealing her secret identity, has turned to Lex for comfort. He is more than happy to manipulate her and plant the belief in her head that she is all alone in the world, without him. Forgetting all the good things that Kara has done for her, Lena is willing to believe that her ex BFF has no goodwill towards her.

The beauty about Lena's character is that she isn't a straight-up villain like Lex or any of the other baddies of the Arrowverse. She is a broken and angry soul, who is seething with hurt and smarting with the betrayal from those closest to her. Unfortunately, this isn't exactly an excuse for her behavior, considering that she left Kara for dead. It is hotly debated among fans whether Lena should be considered evil or not...but then again it's the greys in her character that make her such an intriguing element on the show.

Meanwhile, there's the dubious organization of Leviathan at play. At the beginning of the season, they seemed dark, eerie and deadly. The mystery about them vanished for a while when we were told that they were an alien race who crashed on the Earth a million years ago and wiped out the dinosaurs. They're pretty much sick of the human race and think they're destroying Earth.  All we know till now is that they've been after Andrea Rojas for the medallion of Acrata and even killed her boyfriend.

In the past two episodes, Granny Leviathan (that's what we will call her for now) has been walking around with a diabolic smile, while people have been wrapped like burritos.

The main antagonists of the post-Crisis part of the season have been established, so we'll ignore the minor ones that we've encountered along the way for now.

Judging by the way things are headed, it seems as if the finale of the fifth season would be a combat with the Lex-Lena-Leviathan trio...or you know, Lena could just surprise us and kill Lex once again. That would be a finale to remember.

'Supergirl' airs on CW, Sundays at 9 pm.
