'Supergirl' Season 5 Episode 4 sees a sweet farewell to James Olsen while Lena Luthor forms an alliance with Malefic

This review contains spoilers for 'Supergirl' Season 6 Episode 4 'In Plain Sight

Call it a game-changer. 'In Plain Sight' was an episode with two big twists that set up an interesting season. The episode has three major plot points, starting off with the J'onn (David Harewood)-Malefic relationship.

Attempts to put Malefic back in the Phantom Zone fails. He incepts Alex (Chyler Leigh). The team approaches Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) for help and while she does so, the genius uses the opportunity to sneak around to fulfill her dark plan of "fixing" mankind.

Meanwhile, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and Kelly (Azie Tesfai) head to Calvintown and are shocked to see the place filled with corruption, unemployment, and poverty — the reason being a new prison built at the edge of town.

In Simon Kirby, they find a teen who gives them a detailed idea of the ongoings at the place. William Dey (Staz Nair) was suspected of something shady and Kara (Melissa Benoist), with some help from Nia (Nicole Maines), follows his trail to Mexico where a certain Elena Torres was found dead.

However, deeper investigations reveal the body was actually of someone who had died of natural causes a few weeks earlier. Nia also finds out that Elena is linked to an offshore bank account and has an asset with an encrypted address.

The scrimmage between Malefic and J'onn continues with the latter managing to rid Alex off the incept ability. The team is joined by Kara, Brainy and James who appears in a portal with Kelly as she has a vision of the showdown.

The decisive fight takes place at the National City Planetarium and it seems like Malefic is banished to the Phantom Zone again for good. That's when twist one comes in with Lena's tech managing to actually transfer the Martian to her lab instead.

She offers an alliance with Malefic. Olsen gets his farewell and thankfully, it ends on a sweet note. He decides to head back to Calvintown where he has bought the town's paper and will take charge as the Publisher.  To assist him is the young teen, Simon, who receives the camera from Jimmy.

The final twist comes in the form of the truth about William who tells Kara that he's investigating CatCo's new editor, Andrea Rojas (Julie Gonzalo).

He confesses that he's undercover for The Times to gather more intel that would help to implicate Andrea in a dark criminal conspiracy.

It has been four strong episodes of 'Supergirl' and 'In Plain Sight' firmly establishes that Lena will be one of the most formidable foes this season.

The William-Andrea plot may just expose the story of Acrata and it's intriguing to see how that pans out.

For now, 'Supergirl' looks like its chugging on steadily. 'Supergirl' airs on Sundays at 9 pm on The CW.
