In 'Succession' season 2 episode 3, we saw Logan place a call to Shiv, his daughter, who he had promised Waystar Royco. He had, until that point, kept her away from important meetings and decisions including a retreat Logan had planned for top-level executives of Waystar.

However, after his plan of acquiring PGM, another media company, went to hell in a handbasket because of his well-meaning but ignorant son Roman, Logan seemed convinced it's the right time to bring her in. So in the upcoming episode, will he really bring her in as the heir apparent?

As far as we know, Logan has always got what he wanted and in this case, what he wanted was for his son Kendall to take over. Of course, Kendall got tired of waiting for father to let go of the reins so he planned a coup and failed.

So, Kendall is currently not in the right frame of mind to lead Waystar. That is not to say Logan is not training him to take over someday. Logan did, after all, push Roman out of his office to indicate he would want Ken to take point on gutting one of their acquisitions. He even set up a desk for Ken right in front of him in the office to watch the progress Ken is expected to make after being caught when he was about to betray his family.

The rest of the family, including Shiv, believe Logan is watching Ken to ensure he doesn't pull another stunt but every time Ken does something remotely helpful for Waystar, Logan seems to look hopeful. The promo HBO shared of the upcoming episode features a scene where Shiv is seen asking Gerri what is happening, seeing as she is in the office left to her own vices when her father is taking a secret meeting. It also looks like Ken might have something to do with this meeting because we see Logan huddle with him and Frank.

With Logan leaving Shiv out while he discusses with Ken, it looks like that call towards the end of the last episode might not be what Shiv thinks it is. It could also mean Logan is using Shiv as a distraction to get everyone's attention away from Ken while he is whipped into shape to head the company the way Logan wants him to - under his purview.

If and how Logan would do that and the consequences of this on his relationship with Shiv is something that will unravel over the season. Considering Shiv did give up her ambitions in politics to give her father's promise a shot, we can surely expect fireworks in the upcoming episodes.

The next episode of 'Succession' will air on HBO Sunday at 10 p.m.
