'Succession' Season 2 Episode 9 'DC' will see Logan and family face inquiry at Congress regarding Waystar Cruiselines' corruption
In 'Succession' Season 2 Episode 8, Logan Roy (Brian Cox) was made aware that Waystar may be in deep trouble because of one its employees - in Waystar Cruiselines - may turn into a whistleblower. His response then was to tell his close circle of executives to make sure the employee is either scared into submitting, or paid off.
Throughout the episode, Gerri (J. Smith-Cameron) tried to solve the problem by doing both. However, until the end, the employee did not give in and it became clear he had someone big backing him. From Logan's conversation with his brother Ewan Roy (James Cromwell) in the episode titled 'Dundee', it became clear he could be the one backing the whistleblower.
In episode 9's promo of 'Succession' Season 2, we see Logan and Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong), Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) and Gerri seated to face an inquiry at Congress after an exposé about Waystar Cruiselines by a media outlet. Things do not seem to go very well for the Roys especially when we see Tom lie outright to the members of Congress at the inquiry when asked if he knows a person named Greg Hirsch (Nicholas Braun).
Shiv (Sarah Snook), who is watching it all unfold on a television screen in a different room is clearly unhappy with Tom, who is clearly anxious from all the questioning. To top it off, the person to pose the question to Tom is none other than Shiv's ex-boss, Senator Gil Eavis (Eric Bogosian). Does this spell the end for the Roys and their company Waystar?
The promo also includes a voice-over by Logan who is heard saying "10 bad minutes, on camera in (Washington) DC (at the inquiry), that could be it, the end." Considering the shareholders' meeting scheduled to happen very soon, this inquiry is bad news for the Roys.
We also see Rhea Jarrell (Holly Hunter), the newly appointed CEO of Waystar, having an argument with Logan about why she doesn't feel right about everything that has unfolded in the last few days. Logan gives her the excuse that he had wanted the new CEO to stay clean and completely above it all, but will that convince Rhea?
After all, the whistleblower did reveal details about late Lester McClintock, who used to be one of the top executives of Waystar, and his behavior towards women employees who worked under him in Waystar, which included sexual abuse.
"Sexual exploitation, violence, hidden by cover-ups and corruption," says one of the media coverage on the exposé. As the new CEO, Rhea will have to face some hard times trying to live down everything that has unfolded in the past few days. Will she take herself off Logan Roy's payroll and do exactly as Shiv had expected or will she brace it all and support Logan through the inquiry?
We will see it unfold in 'DC', the upcoming episode of 'Succession' Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
