'Stumptown' Episode 8: Dex craves for Naomi's acceptance as she reflects on her painful past
We haven't been able to help but empathize with Dex (Cobie Smulders) on seeing all that she's been put through, since the inception of ABC's 'Stumptown'.
She might come across as a reckless and obtuse being, always trying to dodge responsibilities, which she often makes up for by seeking help from her dear and near ones. But, in tonight's episode of 'Stumptown', Dex musters the courage to revisit memories from her antagonizing past.
Despite indulging in binge drinking and never-ending promiscuity, any amount of intoxication isn’t helping Dex to come to terms with the loss of the love of her life. She is left with no choice but to pace back and forth with her memories of Benny when his mother Sue approaches her with a new case to investigate.
What makes 'The Other Woman' interesting is Dex's forced association with Naomi in the pretext of the investigation of a tribe that Sue is believed to be trying to run down to the ground.
When Naomi and Dex come face to face, the former is quick to express her hatred towards the PI, owing to Benny's death. While Dex tries to explain to Naomi that she never encouraged her husband to leave the county and follow her to Kabul, her efforts go in vain.
Naomi strongly believes that Dex was the reason for her husband’s death. As the episode progresses, we see Naomi develop a soft spot for Dex, after hearing her share a few words about Benny, which is truly heart-warming.
When they get to talking to each other, both Dex and Naomi remember Benny as they share mutual grief for their man.
Episode 8 has teased us with several possibilities as we see Dex finally attain some peace. She could reason with her thoughts for once, despite incurring a lot of pain.
Towards the end of the episode, she meets Grey at the bar and tells him she has a confession to make about Kabul but is interrupted by Liz.
We need to wait for Episode 9 'Dex's Education' to witness her revelation, which we feel might influence her character to a great extent! The next episode of 'Stumptown' will air on ABC on December 11.
