However, Sam and Brenner get into an argument on whether Eleven should go there or not. Sam reiterates that this facility is not a prison for her and she has the right to make the decision. Eleven says that she wants to go and Sam tells her to pack her bags because they are leaving. A few moments later, we see a bunch of guards entering Sam’s chambers and they take him away to a certain room. Meanwhile, Eleven goes into the lab and the door gets locked from the outside. Brenner appears and says that she can’t leave her now because she is not ready for the fight.
An intense conversation takes place between Eleven and her Papa, in which Brenner says that Eleven will leave only when their work is done. However, she mentions making the right choices and the things he did to her mother. Brenner says that her mother lost her mind and brought a gun to the hospital, killing a man. Eleven stops him and says that it was not a “hospital” he ran, it was a “prison”. Brenner makes her believe that everything he did was for her own protection and when Eleven asks about Henry, he says that he took him in because he thought he could have made him feel better, but he failed him.
Eleven realizes why she was searching the darkness and it was because she was always meant to find Henry. Although Brenner says no, Eleven believes that “papa does not tell the truth”, the words that were said by Henry himself. Brenner accuses Eleven of bringing Henry out of his prison and that’s why she is taking out her anger on him. Eleven gets angry and slams Brenner for lying to her and finding things like Demogorgon and Mind Flayer. So many people died and that happened because Brenner could not let him go.
Eleven tells him that she’s going to leave, but Brenner gives her some drug that makes her feel a bit weak. However, she just slams him to the ground before getting unconscious.
Elsewhere, Sullivan has reached the facility to kill Eleven and they are putting up a fight. However, Brenner manages to take Eleven out of the facility. But they are stopped by a sniper who’s sitting inside the chopper and he shoots Brenner three times. Brenner and Eleven are down and that’s when Sullivan tells him to take Eleven out. At the right moment, Jonathan, Mike, Will, and Argyle reach there to distract the sniper with their car. In the meantime, Eleven gathers herself and uses her powers to destroy the chopper. It all ends in the carnage as she finally reunites with his boyfriend and friends.
In the final moments, Brenner tells Eleven that he always wanted to protect her and he thinks that it’s time for her to fight Vecna because she is ready. With those words, Brenner takes his last breath and dies in the desert as the group leaves for Hawkins.
The episode ends with Lucas, Sadie, and Erica going inside Henry’s house to fight the evil.
