Apparently, Steve Jones' relationship with Chrissie Hynde was hyped up for better viewership for their show 'Pistol'. Jones revealed that the brief romance he shared with Hynde on screen does not come close to reality. Moreover, when he first watched himself on screen, he was shocked.

Jones said, "You've got to showbiz it up a little bit, you’ve got to make it interesting." He then moved on to speaking about his romance with Hynde, stating: "She watched it the other day and she was surprised. She said, 'I didn't realize I was about this much.' "

FX's 'Pistol' Review: Danny Boyle's fast-paced biopic about Sex Pistols is raw, chaotic and engaging

The opening episode showed Steve and Chrissie in a steamy, intimate scene in one of the changing rooms of Sex, a clothing store while Chrissie's then boyfriend Nick Kent waited outside. However, Kent, the English rock music critic, has said that the scene was made-up and he was shocked at how events had been potrayed in the show. He told the Sunday Times, "I definitely dispute that. I know Chrissie was always faithful to me. It was me who was unfaithful to her - that was when and why our relationship broke up, and it hurt us both gravely."

He continued, "Chrissie and I had a relationship, we lived together for a year while she was working in the shop, then we broke up in acrimonious circumstances. She moved to Paris for a while, then went back to Cleveland. I was never aware there was a big affair going on between the two of them," he explained, adding, “Of course, everyone has their own version, and the Sex Pistols is a story that lends itself to sensationalising so easily.” The six-part series Pistol is based on Jones' memoir called 'Lonely Boy: Tales From a Sex Pistol'. Jones has been repeatedly stressing on the fact that it is "not a documentary."

Hynde's ex Kent has also echoed Jones' disclaimer, saying, "It came from Steve Jones' book. He could neither read nor write when I knew him. The irony is painfully apparent." Kent, who has mixed feeling about the series, continued, "I haven't made my mind up yet, but my wife is keen to see it. It’s lovely to hear how I’ve been portrayed by someone who wasn’t in the room when the real stuff went down. You want to know the truth? Everybody got f**ked in the Sex Pistols, this is just the latest version of that."
